Meghan and Kate’s milliner Awon Golding styles miniature hats for charity calendar featuring dogs rescued from certain death in China

She’s milliner to the Princess of Wales, as well as Meghan Markle and Lady Gaga.

But Awon Golding has turned her hat-making skills in a paws-itively different direction to help raise funds for a good cause.

The designer, whose creations have been a favourite of Kate’s for the last five years, has produced miniature versions of her haute couture headwear for a charity calendar starring 12 dogs who were rescued from certain death in China.

Ms Golding, whose wide brimmed hat was chosen by the Princess for Prince Phillip’s memorial service, and also a blue pillbox inspired hat that she wore at Easter celebrations in April, is Head Millinery Designer at Lock and Co, the world’s oldest hat shop and established in London in 1676.

All the dogs featured in the calendar have been saved by Harbin SHS Animal Rescue, a US registered non profit organisation helping animals in China.

So far, their small group of volunteers have rehomed over 4000 rescue dogs internationally, including in the UK, after seeing a need for more support in Harbin, Northeast China, where the lives of animals are at risk because of a trade in illegal dog meat.

Ms Golding, whose designs are also liked by the Duchess of Sussex, who wore a blue and black feathered beret design on Christmas Day in 2018, said she was inspired to produce the calendar after trying hats on her beloved rescue dog, Stevie, a Staffordshire Bull Terrier.

Ms Golding added: ‘All these dogs have been saved from certain death.

‘And this calendar is showing the world that they can make gorgeous best friends and family pets.

‘All these dogs were rescued off the back of meat trucks and were going to be eaten, which is horrific.

‘The work the charity do is incredible, it’s life changing.’
