Why Princess Charlotte’s Christmas look is pure magic – complete with a signature hairdo
There’s only one person who could steal the spotlight from the ever-stylish Princess of Wales on Christmas Day – her daughter, Princess Charlotte.
The charming young royal has already captivated her audience and is building up a fashion following as she gets older.
Princess Charlotte made her Christmas debut in 2016 at St Mark’s Church in Englefield, Berkshire, accompanied by Prince William, Kate, her brother George, and the Middleton family.
Her traditional navy double-breasted wool coat – echoed styles worn by Prince William and Prince Harry in their early years.
Underneath, she wore a burgundy cardigan by m&h, floral smocked dress, ribbed tights and Mary Jane shoes, for a perfectly coordinated ensemble.
Three years would pass before Princess Charlotte made another public appearance on Christmas Day.
At St Mary Magdalene Church, Sandringham, in 2019, she co-ordinated with her mother’s outfit in a bottle green coat by Amaia.
The classic double-breasted design had an A-line silhouette, in the same colour as Kate’s hat, bag and shoes, to striking effect.

For the Christmas Day service in 2022, Charlotte introduced a burgundy Trotters coat with tonal velvet trims on the collar, pockets and buttons, which soon became a favourite.
She repeated this coat for the Together at Christmas Carol Service at Westminster Abbey the following year, swapping her Rachel Riley patent shoes for a similar pair by Papouelli.
Kate, meanwhile, co-ordinated with her daughter in an elegant burgundy coat dress from Eponine.
Charlotte showcased her penchant for traditional style again in 2023, arriving at church in an olive green Friki coat, paired with her trusty Papouelli shoes.
This luxurious coat, handmade in Spain with 100 per cent wool, incorporated a velvet-trimmed collar.
For this year’s Together at Christmas carol concert, Charlotte delighted fans by recycling her burgundy Trotters coat for the third time, again with Papouelli shoes.

Charlotte’s delightful outfits aren’t the only recurring feature at festive gatherings – she also has a signature hairstyle. Over the years, her golden brown locks have been braided and secured at the back, often with a velvet bow in a coordinating shade
With its slightly imperfect finish, it’s likely a style created lovingly by her mother
