The monarchy’s future depends on the ‘obliteration of the Sussexes’, royal biographer Tom Bower tells Sarah Vine and Andrew Pierce on their YouTube talk show The Reaction

An eminent royal biographer believes the future of the monarchy depends on the ‘obliteration of the Sussexes’ after Prince Harry’s brief visit to the King following his cancer diagnosis.

Tom Bower launched a blistering attack on the Duke of Sussex branding him a ‘traitor’ when discussing his meeting with Charles on this week’s The Reaction, the Mail’s new YouTube talkshow.

It was hoped the troubling news of the King’s illness could bring Harry closer to his father and his brother, the Prince of Wales, after launching years of vicious attacks against the monarchy.

But Mr Bower told the Mail’s columnists Sarah Vine and Andrew Pierce that the opposite is the case.

The author of ‘Revenge: Meghan, Harry and the War between the Windsors’ gave his opinion in this week’s episode: ‘I think that the monarchy in fact depends on actually obliterating the Sussexes from our state of life because their continuation is bad for us.

‘I am really furious that he was even allowed to land in London and then given a special escort to Clarence House.

‘I do think it is interesting that given all the number of bedrooms they have got at Buckingham Palace and all the other palaces in London, that he had to stay overnight in a hotel.’

Harry was pictured at Heathrow Airport this afternoon (Weds) getting ready to depart the UK after just 24 hours.

Bower’s strong comments come after Harry, 39, spent a brief time with his 75-year-old father- despite not seeing him for 17 months – after the King informed him of his cancer over the telephone.

They met at Clarence House before the King went to Buckingham Palace to board a helicopter to take him to Sandringham, in Norfolk with his wife, Queen Camilla.

Buckingham Palace confirmed on Monday the King began immediate treatment for an unspecified form of cancer after ‘an issue of concern’ was discovered during recent treatment for a benign enlarged prostate.

Due to his condition, the King has decided to postpone his public engagements during his treatment but will remain hard at work behind the scenes.

The hosts also debated whether there is any hope of forgiveness and healing between the Royal Family and the Sussexes.

Sources told the Mail yesterday while William, 41, respects his father’s decision to ‘keep the door ajar’ for Harry, reconciliation is ‘not an option for him personally at the time being’ while he remains at his wife’s, the Princess of Wales, bedside following her abdominal surgery.

Mr Bower argued: ‘You cannot reconcile with a man who has made a living over the last three years of being such a traitor, of causing them so much unhappiness. I mean he really has quite wilfully. I mean he is not a boy he is nearly 40.’

Ms Vine and Mr Pierce praised the King for telling the public of his condition, but they debate whether he should have said what form of cancer he has after it was confirmed not to be prostate cancer.

Mr Pierce said: ‘The King was transparent to a point but then he became more opaque with the cancer, by saying ‘he is being treated for cancer’. The speculation is lurid, Sarah. He might as well go the whole hog.’

But Ms Vine argued: ‘I really disagree with you. I think that sometimes people do have to keep a part of themselves private, especially if you are like him- laid out on a gurney for everyone to see.’

The hosts went on to discuss how to keep your children safe online following the horrific cases of murdered teenager Brianna Ghey in Warrington and news that Jennifer Crumbley has become the first parent in America to face prison for her son’s killing of four in a school shooting.

But on a lighter note, they asked if the model and actress Holly Valance could be the saviour of the Conservative Party?

The Australian former Neighbours star, now married to British property tycoon Nick Candy, attended Liz Truss’s new ‘PopCon’ event yesterday for popular, modern Conservatives and labelled left-wing ideas as ‘crap’.
