South Park is hailed for mocking Disney over entertainment giant’s incessant woke pandering that has been blamed for multiple box office flops

The animated show South Park has been hailed for slamming Disney and Star Wars‘ incessant woke pandering in their latest special.

‘Joining the Panderverse’, which aired on Paramount+ Friday, lobbed satirical grenades at the Hollywood film studios over their politically-correct casting.

Eric Cartman, who is a white child in the show, gets replaced by a black woman – sparking fury among his friends Stan Marsh, Kyle Broflovski, and Kenny McCormick.

But when they question their school principal about the change, he tells them: ‘If you boys don’t think Eric can be a black woman then maybe the problem is you.’

Elon Musk and Donald Trump Jr. were among those praising the show which won plaudits for slamming Prince Harry and Meghan Markle last season.

In one viral clip, Cartman is seen speaking to a therapist about how he believes ‘woke’ casting is leading to his own friends being replaced by more diverse versions of themselves in his nightmares before ranting about Lucasfilm CEO Kathleen Kennedy.

‘I wanna scream and I’m like, ‘Why are they replacing every single character with someone who is diverse? But then Kenny’s like, ‘It’s not our fault it’s ’cause of Kathleen Kennedy,’ but then Kathleen Kennedy’s just like, ‘F— it, make it more lame!’

He later describes a nightmare where he says: ‘Disney stock just keeps going down and down and down and then Bob Iger is all like, ‘No! No! What’s going on with my stocks?” 

Disney has long faced complaints, particularly from conservatives, at their attempts to try and cater to a more liberal audience by replacing characters from beloved movies and shows with more diverse options.  

Another clip shows fellow South Park elementary students complaining that Cartman has suddenly been recast as an adult black woman. 

‘If you boys don’t think Eric can be a black woman then maybe the problem is you,’ and asking, ‘You probably don’t like that Indiana Jones got replaced by a female either, huh? You probably have a problem with black Spider-Man, too,’ the school’s notorious ‘PC Principal’ responds. 

Later, when confronting Kennedy, the show lands a small jab at the other side by pointing out that while Kennedy’s standards on ‘woke’ casting are lazy, Cartman points out: ‘Constantly railing at woke stuff is pretty lazy, too.’

The special was praised by many across the political spectrum who continued to affirm South Park’s place in the discourse. 

Elon Musk responded to a promo for the special with the crying laughing emoji, writing: ‘timely.’ 

Donald Trump Jr. added: ‘Hahahahaha. As always South Park doesn’t miss.’

Despite being in its 26th season, the series still routinely draws praise from all sides of the aisle for cultural critiques like their slam on Prince Harry and Meghan Markle last season

Benny Johnson called the episode a ‘BANGER’ and said that the episode’s anti-Disney commentary shows ‘We’re winning.’ 

A more liberal inclined viewer noted that Cartman – who once fed the ashes of a boy’s dead parents to him in a famous episode – is often seen as the show’s villain and taking his commentary at face value can seem misguided.

‘Conservatives constantly viewing Eric Cartman as the moral voice of reason in every South Park clip they pull up is so f**king funny.’ 

In February, South Park took aim at the Duke and Duchess of Sussex in an episode depicting the Prince and Princess of Canada – a young royal couple who loudly beg for privacy while drawing attention to themselves.

The red-headed prince and his wife, who wears the same dusty pink outfit that Meghan donned for Trooping the Color in 2018, along with a near-identical white hat that sits askew on her head, are seen promoting the prince’s book – Waaagh – the cover of which strongly resembles Harry’s memoir Spare. 

They storm off during a TV show after being challenged about their motives, before moving to South Park, with the princess declaring: ‘If we moved here, people would think we’re really serious about wanting to be normal.’

But their arrival enrages the local community – in particular Kyle, who lives opposite them.

He complains about their private jet that is parked outside the house and the prince playing polo on the lawn.

‘They have this huge jet parked in front of my house and they keep on wanting me to buy their book,’ he complains to his friends Kenny, Cartman and Stan. The episode takes multiple, thinly-veiled swipes at the Sussexes.

Trey Parker and Matt Stone said they’ve had so many complaints they ‘can’t remember’ them all over their 26 years of writing for the Comedy Central show.

The pair appeared on the Basic! podcast to discuss their many criticisms just a week after the scathing episode which laid into Meghan and Harry, which is rumored to have upset the royal pair.

The outfit worn by the princess in South Park very closely resembles the ensemble worn by Meghan Markle at Trooping the Color in 2018 

Parker and Stone said they’re no stranger to lawsuits, and aren’t frightened by them. 

But Parker and Stone have opened up on the controversial history of the show, with much of their work leading to legal action.

They told the podcast’s hosts Doug Herzog and Jen Chaney that ‘there are so many moments we can’t even remember’ when it came to criticism of their animated series.
