Royal Update: Prince George’s public gaffe, Archie’s patriotic outing

This week, new photos of both Prince George, 8, and his little cousin Archie, 3, emerged after both royals were spotted out and about with their parents on separate outings. Meanwhile, Kate Middleton photographed her stepmother-in-law Camilla for a magazine cover and the Queen revealed she’s had it with Prince Harry’s drama – but that didn’t stop the duke’s legal team from revealing his strained relationship with Her Majesty’s Private Secretary in court. Here’s what you need to know.

THE NEW FAB FOUR: A behind-the-scenes royal photo emerged this week that showed Kate Middleton snapping Camilla for the cover of Country Life (pictured). The Duchess of Cambridge, 40, who was described as a ‘consummate professional’ by the magazine, is a keen photographer, and has taken several official portraits of her three children. Now she can add the magazine cover to her portfolio, with the snap that shows the Duchess of Cornwall, 74, relaxing at her at Ray Mill House country retreat in Lacock, Wiltshire. 

According to Country Life, the behind-the-scenes image was taken by The Duchess of Cornwall’s country dresser, Shona Williams. The photograph taken by Kate appears in the July edition of the publication (pictured), just ahead of Camilla’s landmark 75th birthday on July 17. 

According to a royal source, it was Camilla’s idea to ask Kate to take the photograph, and Country Life’s managing and features editor, Paula Lester has said the publication ‘could not be happier with the results’ of the photoshoot. She added: ‘In fact, the set of images she took was so good that we struggled to choose only three, from which The Duchess of Cornwall made her final selection.’ 

Meanwhile, the magazine’s editor Mark Hedges said everyone was thrilled by the photos which captured Camilla ‘magnificently’. He added that the magazine would be ‘delighted’ to offer Kate another commission. 

Vanity Fair’s Katie Nicholl said it was ‘lovely’ Camilla had asked Kate to take the snap, adding: ‘They’re very very close, they really are.’ She continued: ‘It’s interesting isn’t it, we were sitting here talking about the fab four last time and, of course, that was Harry and Meghan and William and Kate and now we talk about a very different fab four. We are talking about Charles and Camilla and William and Kate.’ Pictured: Kate and Camilla at a Jubilee celebration last month.  

KISS ME, KATE! Later in the week, the Duchess congratulated a victorious Prince William with an affectionate kiss on the cheek after she spent the afternoon cheering him on at Royal Charity Polo Cup 2022 in Windsor. The Duke, 40, has previously played in charity polo matches with his brother Prince Harry, 37, who now lives in his $14.7 million home in Santa Barbara.

During the outing, Kate appeared in high spirits and could be seen affectionately stroking her family dog Orla, 2, with one hand, while nursing a glass of Pimms with her other. 

It’s been a busy week for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, who on Tuesday made their first visit to Wimbledon of the year. Kate cut a polished figure in a Alessandra Rich frock as she watched two thrilling matches alongside Prince William.

Kate led George into the stadium where Prince William gave his eldest a big hug and a kiss on the cheek as they saw each other. 

Back in 2016, when he was only four years old, doting mother Kate hinted that Prince George could be a future Wimbledon star when she revealed that he had a racket and was already playing tennis. She told Briton Greg Rusedski, who was in the men’s invitational doubles, that George has already taken an interest in the game, despite being just two years old. Just watching the tennis in a suit was enough to get the young prince hot under the collar. On Monday, a video surfaced of little George telling his father he was ‘too hot’ in his outfit. Photos showed doting father William checking in on his son while he tried to cool himself down as temperatures surged to 82 degrees.

Fans on social media also expressed concern about the youngster being too warm, and Royal Editor Robert Jobson tweeted that while William and Kate were being respectful of the All England Club’s formal dress code, nobody would have minded George wearing something less formal. 

According to Prince Harry’s legal team, ‘significant tensions’ exist between the Duke of Sussex and the Queen’s Private Secretary, Sir Edward Young (pictured). The pair’s relationship was brought to light at the High Court as part of the prince’s legal battle with the Home Office over its decision to cut his UK police protection. 

Shaeed Fatima QC, for the duke, told the court: ‘He [Prince Harry] didn’t know at that stage that the Royal Household was involved at all [in the decision to cut his personal protective security]… he was told it was an independent decision.’ Ms Fatima said that it was not ‘appropriate’ for Sir Edward or senior members of the Royal Household to have had any say on the matter. 

The duke’s representatives previously said how he wants to bring wife Meghan Markle and their children Archie and Lilibet (pictured) to visit from the US, but that they are ‘unable to return to his home’ because it is too dangerous. However, they returned last month for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee after reportedly being given ‘cast iron assurances’ they would be protected by specialist police. 

The duke’s legal team are seeking to argue that the security arrangements set out in a letter from Ravec, and their application when he visited the UK in June 2021, were invalid due to ‘procedural unfairness’ because he was not given an opportunity to make ‘informed representations beforehand’. 

AMERICAN ROYALS: Across the pond, Harry and Meghan easily passed for a typical American family in delightful photos taken at a traditional 4th of July parade last week. The notoriously-private Duke and Duchess of Sussex stunned onlookers by turning up at a patriotic bash in Jackson Hole, Wyoming with their three-year-old son Archie. 

Images obtained exclusively by DailyMail.com reveal the young family sitting down on a dusty sidewalk as they watch a procession of floats, tractors and cowboys and rodeo girls on horseback. 

Thrilled Archie can be seen sucking on a red lollipop and clutching a miniature US flag as doting parents Harry, 37, and Meghan, 40, chat to friends with a bodyguard standing nearby. The California-based Prince and his Suits actress wife are known to fiercely guard their privacy and are rarely spotted in public – even less so with their red-headed little boy and daughter Lilibet, one. 

Onlookers said the couple appeared to let their guard down in picturesque Jackson Hole, a trendy ski resort town where Kanye West, Sandra Bullock and Harrison Ford own pricey property. In fact the Sussexes made such a favorable impression that one parade-goer – a fellow Brit –was overheard urging them to swap their ritzy Californian life for the Cowboy State, telling Harry: ‘You’d fit right in here.’ Lilibet was not spotted at the July 4th celebration and it’s not known whether she traveled with the trio to Wyoming, where they were joined by Meghan’s Pilates instructor pal Heather Dorak and her children.
