Royal make-up tips for every season, inspired by Kate, Meghan, Sophie and Beatrice

Royal women are known for their impeccably polished appearances, which extends to their make-up.

With the expectation of looking flawless at every occasion, their beauty routines are always on point.

Just like fashion, make-up trends change depending on the season.

Most recently, Meghan Markle embraced the newest ‘cold girl’ trend while attending the Invictus Games in Canada

Taking inspiration from this, we explore seasonal beauty looks fit for royalty – complete with expert tips from celebrity make-up artist, Oonagh Connor.

WINTER

Meghan, Duchess of Sussex

While attending the Invictus Games in Whistler, Canada, Meghan appeared to embrace the TikTok-approved ‘cold girl’ make-up trend.

Designed to mimic a winter-kissed glow while maintaining a natural look, she opted for a dewy base paired with a glossy nude lip.

Her cheeks were swept with rosy blush, complementing shimmery bronze eyeshadow, brushed-up brows and fluttery lashes.

For the finishing touch, Meghan’s freckles were delicately re-drawn across her nose and cheeks.

‘The cold girl make-up trend is very now – it’s all about creating a faux cold chill in a polished way’, says Oonagh.

‘Meghan perfected this look by using pink dewy blush and giving her make-up a barely-there look.’

To create the aesthetic at home, Oonagh advises choosing cool-toned pinks to emulate flushed cheeks that one might experience after a winter walk.

‘If you have chapped lips and need extra moisture, lip oils are a great substitute if gloss isn’t for you,’ she adds.

SPRING

Princess Beatrice

Princess Beatrice showcased a glamorous, spring-ready look at last year’s Buckingham Palace garden party, hosted by Prince William.

She paired her bold Beulah dress with striking make-up, featuring a radiant glow.

Her eyes were accentuated with dark eyeliner and multiple coats of mascara, while her lipstick perfectly matched the shade of her frock.

‘Beatrice chooses elaborate make-up to match her colourful fashion choices. It’s strong, dramatic and bold,’ Oonagh says.

To keep her long, wavy hair sleek despite the rainy weather, she pinned it back behind her shoulders using a statement hairband.

SUMMER

Catherine, Princess of Wales

Kate exuded effortless glamour during her 2022 royal tour of the Caribbean.

Despite the tropical heat, she remained as stylish as ever, stepping out in an array of designer looks from the likes of Jenny Packham and Saint Laurent.

For one standout moment, she wore an elegant off-shoulder gown by Packham, styling her hair in a sleek chignon to keep frizz at bay in the humid climate.

Her make-up featured bronzed cheeks, defined brows and her signature eyeliner for a polished finish.

‘Kate shapes and defines her features using bronzer. It’s a beautiful, structured look, polished to perfection,’ Oonagh shares.

‘She opts for a full-coverage base and completes the look by swiping highlighter across the top of her cheeks and brow bone. This gives a beautiful sheen which catches the sunlight.’

During the day, the Princess chose relaxed chignons and half-up, half-down hairstyles to adapt to the warm weather.

AUTUMN

Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh

At a British Fashion Council event last September, Sophie exuded effortless elegance in tailored Victoria Beckham trousers paired with a Frame blouse in the season’s must-have shade – burgundy.

She styled her blonde hair in a loose ponytail, showcasing delicate gemstone earrings.

Her make-up was naturally radiant, featuring sun-kissed skin, defined eyes with dark eyeliner, and a soft nude lip.

Oonagh said: ‘In keeping with the season, Sophie chose a warm berry shade of lipstick and a complementary brown smoky eye.

‘The look tied in nicely with her burgundy ensemble.’
