Prince Harry continues show of support for LA wildfire victims at charity concert for first responders

The Duke of Sussex continued his show of support for victims of the LA wildfires yesterday by attending a charity concert to help raise funds for victims.

Prince Harry, 40, took to the One805 Rock for Responders benefit at The Granada Theatre in Santa Barbara, California, where he chatted with first responders.

The father-of-two, dressed in a black blazer and jeans, appeared engaged as he spoke with members of the police and fire departments at the charity event.

The devastating blaze destroyed more than 18,000 structures and forced tens of thousands of people from their homes, with first responders working tirelessly to manage the crisis. 

Proceeds from yesterday’s event will support the mental wellness of first responders in Los Angeles and Santa Barbara and musicians affected by the fires.

A guitar signed by the performing artists and Prince Harry was auctioned at the event and sold for $9,000 (£6,900), according to News Channel 3-12.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who live near Santa Barbara, around 90 miles from LA, have repeatedly supported wildfire victims and have donated to relief efforts through their Archewell Foundation.

The couple also opened their $14.5 million Montecito mansion to loved ones forced to evacuate their homes in January.

It comes after Meghan Markle shared a rare and heartwarming photo of Prince Harry and their daughter Lilibet to celebrate International Women’s Day yesterday.

The Duchess of Sussex, 43, posted the snap on Instagram, showing the three-year-old princess curled up on her father’s lap as he lovingly kissed the top of her head while they relaxed on a boat.

It was published alongside three other images ‘celebrating strong women’, including one of Meghan and her mother, Doria Ragland – both grinning while taking a selfie.

Another photograph included showed Meghan and Harry at the beach laughing and hugging.

It was captioned: ‘Celebrating the strong women around us & the girls with dreams who will become women with vision. Also thanking those who uplift us every day.’

The mother-of-two appears to be on cloud nine following the release of her new show With Love, Meghan, which has been renewed for a second season.

Yesterday, Meghan acknowledged that she makes ‘mistakes’ but insisted that she is ‘learning every day’, after her hotly-anticipated Netflix show received some less glowing reviews.

She said: ‘Right now! I’m launching my business, As Ever, which has been my heartsong for years.

‘Every day I’m learning so much as a founder. I’m taking baby steps and big strides at the same time, making mistakes and learning from them, and really working to find all the joy while diving into the creative process and the business.

‘Being in the granular parts of the business gives me the same feeling I have when I’m gardening: bare hands in the soil, planting a seed with so much care, and nurturing it as it grows.

‘There’s something energizing about being in my 40s and turning my passion project into a business – and sharing that with the world.’

Kate Middleton also marked International Women’s Day with a poignant tribute to 17-year-old photographer Liz Hatton – who died of cancer late last year.

The Princess of Wales, 43, took to Instagram on Saturday afternoon to celebrate the 17-year-old and her mother Vicky’s ‘unwavering resilience’.

In one of a number of posts dedicated to women who have ‘inspired’ her, Kate wrote: ‘Celebrating the strength, resilience and creativity of Liz and her mother Vicky, it was an honour meeting them both at Windsor in November.

‘Liz’s memory lives on in Vicky’s unwavering resilience.

‘Thank you for such a moving moment.’

Liz died at her home in Harrogate, North Yorkshire, in November, less than a year after being diagnosed with an incurable desmoplastic small round cell tumour.

A hugely talented photographer, she compiled an inspirational ‘bucket list’ of assignments to complete in the last months of her life, which reached the ears of the future king and queen.

She was invited by them to Windsor Castle to photograph an investiture William was holding and, to her surprise, was asked to have tea with the couple afterwards.
