My 70-year-old dad swears by this M&S thermal top for keeping him warm

With energy bills rising and colder months officially here, finding ways to stay warm without blasting the heating has never been more important. Luckily, shoppers — and my dad — have found the perfect solution: this 2-pack of thermal long-sleeved tops from M&S.

With more than 500 five-star reviews online, this £28 set has becoming a must-have for anyone wanting to beat the chill this winter. While customer reviews speak volumes, the real endorsement comes from my 70-year-old dad, who insists on wearing these thermal tops instead of turning up the heating and completely swears by them, whether he’s out for a walk or lounging at home.

For those unfamiliar with thermals, they’re designed to defend against cold weather, trapping body heat and creating an insulating layer between your skin and the cold air. Unlike bulky layers, thermals are lightweight, breathable and highly effective at keeping you warm without heavy clothing.

M&S’ long-sleeved tops use the brand’s clever Heatgen technology to help retain warmth, and they’re stretchy, so the vest moves with you and holds its shape. They’re available in four colours (blue, black, white and brown) and sizes (XS to 2XL) and come in various styles, including short-sleeved options and thermal long johns for full coverage.

M&S shoppers love this two-piece set, with an average 4.6-star rating out of five. One person said these “great tops (…) do their job keeping you warm,” while another called them “nice and warm (for using) as undergarments for working outside.”

A third shopper said they’re “absolutely the best thermal I have used (…) fits so well and true to size.” A fourth added: “They’re the perfect partner for my thermal long johns. The winter football games will be much cosier while sitting in the stand watching my favourite team.”

However, only some are as impressed. One unimpressed reviewer complained the sleeves became “loose very quickly after one to two times wearing it.”

Still, the majority agree these M&S thermal tops are great for keeping you warm on the chilliest days. You can shop them via M&S here.

Alternatively, UNIQLO has an affordable range of thermal clothing, including these discounted leggings down to £12.90 from £24.90. Mountain Warehouse has plenty of options, including this £26.99 thermal top and pant set.
