Their marriage lasted just two years, with sources close to the couple telling the Daily Mail in 2017 that her ascent to fame took its toll on their relationship.
They separated in the summer of 2013 and divorced in 2014, with papers citing ‘irreconcilable differences’.
It is understood it was Meghan who ultimately decided the marriage was over. She reportedly sent her wedding ring back to Engelson in the post after they split.
The Hollywood producer announced his engagement to American heiress Tracey two weeks after Prince Harry and Markle’s Royal wedding in May 2018.
Trevor and Tracey then tied the knot in a lavish ceremony at the Rosewood Miramar Beach resort in Montecito, California, in May 2019.

The Duke of Sussex made the extraordinary revelation in a candid interview with conservationist Dr Jane Goodall as part of his wife’s edition of British Vogue.

British charity Population Matters, of which Sir David Attenborough is the patron, is one of the leading campaigners on population control and has urged parents to ‘Stop at Two’.
Last month, Meghan Markle’s friends have denied rumours that the Duchess of Sussex was approached about a book deal detailing a potential divorce with Prince Harry.
Talks of another prospective project for Meghan in the form of a book began circulating a few years ago, Vanity Fair claimed in its bombshell new article, which was intended to be written ‘post-divorce’.
The potential manuscript was not meant to detail Meghan’s past experience with former husband of three years, producer Trevor Engelson, but that of her second spouse Prince Harry.

It was not based on current events in Meghan’s life, but set to take place in the event of a separation between the Duke and Duchess.
However, Meghan’s friends shut down the claims, with one knowledgeable source saying: ‘If that’s true to any degree, she would have been approached and not vice versa.’
Rumours of a seperation between the pair swirled around last year when Harry was seen carrying out multiple public engagements without his wife.
He jetted off alone to New York to meet royals and celebrities before a solo trip to Britain in September, while Meghan stayed in Montecito.
Yesterday, Meghan Markle has resurfaced on Instagram as she gave a huge shoutout to singer Billie Eilish for helping her out with a sweet request following the Los Angeles wildfires.
In the video shared on Tuesday, Markle, who was dressed casually in an sweatshirt embroidered with her two kids’ names on it, Lilibet and Archie, began excitedly sharing that something she was expecting in the mail had finally arrived.
Markle, who appeared to be make-up free, explained that the couple were visiting a mom and her 15-year-old daughter whose home burned down in the area, as they joined them to see their home for the first time since the fire.
The With Love, Meghan star was told that the one thing that the young woman had been looking for in her home was a t-shirt she got at the Billie Eilish concert that was left in the washing machine or dryer.
Unfortunately, however, their home was destroyed in the fires and so was the t-shirt.
However, Markle was determined to have the 15-year-old’s story reach Eilish, and she was successfully able to score a ton of signed merch for the teen, which she showed in the video.
‘I thought of everybody that I knew and I made a voice note, and I was like, “Please can someone get this voice note to Billie Eilish? Here’s what I’m asking,”‘ Markle explained in the clip.
