Megan Markle joins MasterChef Australia as fans erupt online

Meghan Markle will be guest starring on the new season of MasterChef Australia and fans of the beloved series are not happy.

Channel 10 took to Instagram on Wednesday evening to make the announcement, alongside an image of the Duchess of Sussex smiling proudly alongside judges Jean-Christophe Novelli, Poh Ling Yeow and Sofia Levin.

‘We’re welcoming someone SUPER special into the MasterChef Kitchen,’ the caption began.

‘Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, makes a special guest appearance this season as she returns to Australia for the first time since 2018,’ it continued.

MasterChef Australia also shared footage of the moment Poh introduces Megan to this year’s cast.

Meghan’s TV appearance divides MasterChef audience

Meghan exuded confidence and style as she strode onto the MasterChef set in a sleek black ensemble.

Her trademark smile flashed with quiet assurance as she hinted at what was to come.

It didn’t take long for MasterChef fans to turn up their nose and share their displeasure.

‘How to make your show the laughing stock of not just Australia but the rest of the world also. There goes your credibility right down the drain,’ wrote one disgruntled fan.

‘Turned me off the show before the season starts!!!’ added another, while someone else said, ‘It’s a no from me’.

And there was plenty more where that came from.

‘You have got to be joking!’ spat another fan, while one more questioned why MasterChef would extend the invitation.

‘Not a chef’: critics slam Meghan’s MasterChef role

‘Australia is getting worse and worse by the day. We’re paying so much money for her to be here, while some families don’t even have food on the table,’ they wrote.

‘What the?? She’s not a master chef let alone a master of anything!!! No thanks,’ added another.

‘I suppose she will show us how to make jam. Pleasssseeeee! quipped another.

However, others were excited about the former actress joining the Channel Ten series.

‘The wonderful Meghan! A royal treat,’ one person wrote.

‘Oh I love this! She’s such a beauty,’ a second added.

‘Very nice. Cooking and presentation were her interest before meeting Harry- she had a blog. Her preparations have been lovely,’ someone else chimed in.

Meghan Markle donned head-to-toe designer to serve homeless women

Meghan Markle served up lunch for homeless women at a shelter in Melbourne on Tuesday while dressed head-to-toe in designer clothes and priceless gold jewellery, including Princess Diana‘s Cartier watch.

The bizarre scene played out on the first day of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex‘s trip to Australia, which had begun at dawn when they touched down at Melbourne’s Tullamarine Airport shortly after 6.30am.

They flew in from Los Angeles on a Qantas Boeing 787 Dreamliner sat together in row three in business class, since this Qantas aircraft does not offer a first-class cabin.

According to other passengers, the couple breezed through arrivals looking relaxed and refreshed despite the 15-hour flight.

After a brief stop at their city centre hotel, they arrived on schedule at Royal Children’s Hospital Melbourne on the stroke of midday, where they were greeted by a large crowd of well-wishers.

While Harry wore a navy blue suit with an open-necked white shirt, Meghan turned to local designer Karen Gee for a hand-picked Priscilla dress in ink navy, which retails for $1,250.

She paired the dress with Dior’s ‘Dioressence’ pointed-toe pumps, which sell for  up to $1,000. The recycled fashion appears to be a favourite with the Duchess who has been seen wearing them at three other events in 2023, according to royal watchers.

She also wore 14k yellow gold Puffy Heart earrings by Australian Real Fine Studio, costing $1,118, a Tiffany gold bracelet and a gold Cartier Tank Française watch – which is believed to have belonged to Harry’s mother, the late Princess Diana.

The latter is now priceless as an historic heirloom, but even without any royal connections the petite yellow-gold timepiece is still worth at least $ 41,200.

She also wore her wedding ring and another unidentified bejewelled ring on her right hand for a look worth around $50,000 in total when she went on to her next stop, a solo visit to the McAuley homeless centre in the city’s inner-west.

Once there, she covered up her gold-buttoned dress with a butcher’s-style blue and white pinstripe apron but still glistened with gold as she dished up lunch to the homeless women sheltering there.

Many of the women are believed to have little more than the clothes they stood up in after fleeing troubled homes and violence.

Undeterred by the hefty price tags on her outfit, Meghan warmly greeted the residents and served up zucchini slice for lunch.

The Duchess has previously attended women’s homeless facilities in Vancouver, Los Angeles, Bristol, and Dusseldorf during the 2023 Invictus Games.

It’s understood that Meghan handpicked the McAuley facility for a visit.

‘It’s very lovely to have attention on the whole issue of homelessness and family violence and she will bring that attention to this this facility, so that’s good,’ McAuley CEO Jocelyn Bignold told reporters.

‘The women are excited to see and meet her. They’re also a little bit nervous.’
