Matthew Wright announces he will be spending Christmas Day away from his wife and daughter AGAIN as festive season ‘does his head in’
Matthew Wright announced he will be spending Christmas Day away from his wife and daughter, again, because the festive season ‘does his head in.’
The presenter, 58, spent the day at work last year and defended his decision to miss his daughter Cassady’s first Christmas in 2020 in favour of a Caribbean holiday.
On Wednesday, Matthew revealed this year will be no different as he will be spending his day in the studio at LBC.
Last month he replaced Andrew Castle on Weekend Breakfast at the radio station and announced he would be there to ‘keep his listeners company’ on Christmas Day.
In an update shared to X, the broadcaster wrote: ‘Weird to some but I’ll be spending Xmas apart from my girls again this year – Xmas does my head in.’

He added: ‘I’ll be keeping you company on LBC over the festive period instead. I’ll be hosting breakfast show again this weekend and 10-1pm on Xmas day/Boxing day
Last year, Matthew told how he’ll once again spend the festive season away due to work, with the star joking his wife Amelia will ‘love it’ as it ‘gets her away from me for a few days!’
The broadcaster had joined hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield as well as royal reporter Camilla Tominey to discuss the latest news, including Sarah Ferguson being invited to her first Sandringham Christmas in 30 years.
They also discussed the news that the Prince and Princess of Wales will not visit Prince Harry and Meghan Markle despite them both being on the east coast of the US – with the topic prompting Matthew to disclose his own plans.
He explained: ‘I’m not seeing the wife and child on Christmas day, we’re having it apart again.
‘My wife and child are down with granny, I’ll be working. I’m at home, working. For LBC.’
Accepting his reasoning, Holly said: ‘Whatever works for each individual family, as Matthew remarked that he ‘loves’ having the time to himself.
Phillip then asked how his wife feels about the time apart, to which the presenter laughed: ‘She loves it! it gets her away from me for a few days! How do you think she feels?!’

In 2020, Matthew defended his decision to miss his baby daughter’s first Christmas, saying that his wife advised him to take a two-week holiday alone for the sake of his own mental health.
The TalkRadio star spent the yuletide period fishing and walking in the Caribbean, while wife Amelia and then 11-month-old Cassady celebrated at the family home.
During an appearance on This Morning, he said a stressful year and a new baby had contributed to his need to escape, and that Amelia fully supported his decision.
He said: ‘I’ve had a lot of mental health issues really over the last year and a half.
‘A friend’s suicide, problems at Channel 5, other personal problems, and there was a story written about me, a fake story about me losing my job just before Christmas and it knocked me sideways.’
He revealed that his wife Amelia said to him: ‘What’s the point of you being here and not sleeping? Do something that’s good for you’ and gave him her full support for the two-week break.
Matthew has been with his second wife Amelia, a Sony music executive, since 2007 and they have been married since 2010 (pictured in 2014)
The couple welcomed their baby girl in January 2019, through IVF after a heartbreaking eight-years of trying, which saw Amelia fall pregnant six times, all of which ended in miscarriage
He admitted that ‘he’d cried his eyes out’ at the thought of missing Cassady’s first Christmas but said the holiday had done him the ‘power of good’ and says he has now seen a therapist to address his ‘struggles’.
In 2018, Wright, who suffers with insomnia and quit his long-running Channel 5 morning show the same year, was diagnosed with PTSD saying: ‘I think if I hadn’t got out, or left when I did, I don’t know what kind of state I’d be in today.’
Matthew also spent Christmas 2018 alone, despite his wife being nearly seven months pregnant with Cassady at the time.
The radio talk show host, who at the time admitted he hasn’t bought a Christmas card or present for around 11 years, spent ‘two weeks, fishing, without any friends or family’, while his wife Amelia, spent the festive season with her relatives.
