Marks and Spencer is a go-to brand for quality and reasonably priced items. However, one clutch bag has impressed customers because of how “expensive” it looks despite its affordable price tag. The bag also shares some similarities to a designer handbag that costs almost £2,000 more.
M&S’ faux leather clutch bag uses a woven design reminiscent of the intrecciato-weave leather bag range from Italian luxury brand Bottega Veneta. The designer handbags have been popular with celebrities, including Kylie Jenner and Sofia Richie, but they retail for between £1,900 and £2,100, depending on the exact style. But if you want to emulate the same woven design but don’t have a spare couple of grand lying around, the M&S clutch could be a great option.
The high-street bag retails for £35. Of course, unlike the designer alternative, it isn’t made from real leather but faux leather made from polyurethane. However, shoppers have complimented the material and said it feels high quality. One customer left a review on the website, stating: “A gorgeous soft black bag. Good quality material that looks just like leather. The gold chain makes the bag look classy. Overall,[it] looks more expensive.”
The bag has a foldover fastening with a magnetic clasp to keep your belongings safe. It also has a detachable gold chain strap that you can wear as a classic clutch or a shoulder bag. A zippable pocket is inside for small items, such as keys, lipstick or loose chage.
There are three colours to choose from: pale yellow, black, and olive. If you notice the bag is starting to get a little scuffer, M&S says the exterior fabric is wipe-clean (no need for expensive specialist cleaning).
Based on reviews from previous shoppers, the bag has received a 4.9 out of a possible five stars, and 80% of shoppers recommend it. Several reviews comment on how expensive the bag looks despite being less than £40. One customer said: “I first saw this advertised in green, then spotted the black and bought it immediately. It’s so stylish, excellent quality, and looks much more expensive.”
Another added: ”I absolutely love this bag. It’s a beautiful colour, and very good quality – an excellent buy.”

The leather woven bag design has been popular for a few years now, and it seems the trend is here to stay, with multiple other retailers also producing their own version of the cult item.
