‘Our beloved Queen Elizabeth dies and they lose the security of their grandmother.

‘Then Will’s father has only just had his bloody coins printed and suddenly he’s got significant worries too.

‘Then they’ve also got this bloody uncle that no one would want, because the arrogance and naivety of Andrew is just beyond me.

‘I’ve been in the same room as him and, believe me, that was enough.’

The 58-year-old also discussed the recent fallout over the Mother’s Day photo shared by Kate and William earlier this month.

He said questioned whether Kate photoshopping a ‘beautiful family photo’ was the crime of the century’.

Mr Goldsmith is now a multimillionaire businessman but he and Kate’s mother, Carole grew up in a council house in west London. He described their upbringing as ‘diverse’ like a ‘Woolies pick’n’mix counter’.

He said in the interview that is why he is ‘so angry’ that Meghan accused Kate of being racist. ‘Kate knows her family’s roots and is proud of them,’ he added

Mr Goldsmith has now apologised on X, formerly known as Twitter for his actions.

He said: ‘As many will have seen, I am featured in Saturday’s ‘Times Magazine’.

‘This interview and shoot was done over a week ago and went to print before I was aware of the sad news regarding my niece Kate.

‘My thoughts and prayers are with Kate and the wider family at this difficult time and deeply upset at the timing of this article.

‘I hope this draws a line over the continued speculation and horrible conspiracies. Let’s give Kate, William & the children time and show some love back.’

Mr Goldsmith enjoyed a close relationship with his neice, the Princess of Wales over the years.

Kate was a bridesmaid at Mr Goldsmith’s first wedding to sales executive Miranda Foote in 1991, and her uncle previously revealed how the heartbroken royal sought solace at his Ibiza villa after a break-up with William.

Prince William and Kate stayed at Mr Goldsmith’s Ibiza villa, in 2006, and he has warm words for the future King, describing him as both ‘down-to-earth’ and ‘charming’.

Mr Goldsmith was also guest at William and Kate’s wedding at Westminster Abbey in 2011, and then Kate’s sister Pippa Middleton’s marriage to James Matthews in 2017.

He has previously spoken in support of Kate – including to the Mail on Sunday in March 2021 after Harry and Meghan’s infamous interview with Oprah Winfrey interview.

He said at the time: ‘I’ve known Kate since she was born and she doesn’t have a mean bone in her body. It’s just simply not in her nature.

‘She’s even lovelier on the inside than on the outside. If anyone had a hissy fit, it must have been Meghan. Kate would have been trying to make the peace. I would fight for Kate’s honour until the day I die. She is the most spectacular person I’ve ever met.’

Buckingham Palace announced last night that cancer was found after Kate underwent major adominal surgery in January and that she is now undergoing a preventative course of chemotherapy.

The 42-year-old said in a deeply emotional message filmed at Windsor Castle that the news had come as a ‘huge shock’.

The Princess of Wales added that she and William ‘have been doing everything we can to process and manage this privately for the sake of our young family’.

Speaking from a bench surrounded by daffodils and spring blossom, she said: ‘It has taken us time to explain everything to George, Charlotte and Louis in a way that is appropriate for them, and to reassure them that I am going to be ok.

‘As I have said to them; I am well and getting stronger every day by focusing on the things that will help me heal; in my mind, body and spirits.

‘Having William by my side is a great source of comfort and reassurance too. As is the love, support and kindness that has been shown by so many of you.

‘It means so much to us both.’

The announcement came days after she was seen smiling with Prince William as they left their favourite farm shop close to their Windsor home.

The Royal Family also revealed in February that King Charles had been diagnosed with a form of cancer.

He has begun a series of regular treatments and is postponing public duties.
