Idris Elba’s wife Sabrina reveals what she regrets from Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding – and says she was shocked to have even made it onto the guest list

Sabrina Dhowre Elba has spilled on the one thing she wished she had done differently when she attended Prince Harry and Meghan Markle‘s wedding alongside her husband, actor Idris Elba

The 35-year-old confessed she regrets wearing a head-to-toe Gucci ensemble to the Harry and Meghan’s 2018 nuptials admitting it was ‘a little loud’.

Sabrina said she couldn’t believe she was a guest at the high-profile event, which she attended with her now-husband just a year after they met.

She almost broke the number one wedding guest faux pas and wore a white dress but covered it with a black knee-length coat with Gucci’s recognisable green and red trim.

The Canadian model, who married Elba in 2019, styled the ensemble with matching Mary Jane Gucci pumps, a white shoulder bag and navy hat.

Speaking with host Emily Dean on the podcast Walking the Dog, Sabrina revealed it was one of the first times a designer brand had offered to dress her but said she would not have chosen the same outfit today.

‘It was actually one of the first times that a big brand was dressing me, and Gucci was dressing, and I was so excited to take whatever. I was like, ‘oh my god thank you’ and I was genuinely excited,’ she said.

‘Looking back, I maybe would have worn something different. It was a little loud, maybe.’

However, the podcaster disagreed backing Sabrina’s outfit choice and dubbing her a ‘fashion goddess’.

‘I think what you did was bring a modernity to it, and you were a disruptor and challenging the perceived narrative,’ Dean said.

‘You’re saying, ‘no, it’s a wedding, these are my friends, and I’m going to wear what I want to express myself’.’

Idris invited Sabrina to be his date to the royal wedding the year after they started dating.

The 52-year-old actor met Harry through his father King Charles III and they had ‘hung out’ ‘a couple of times’ before scoring an invite to the wedding.

‘His dad’s charity, the Prince’s Trust, helped me out as a young actor. So I do a lot work with them, Harry and William… And Harry came to a couple of parties that I deejayed.,’ he previously said on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

‘Harry came to a couple of parties that I DJed and he was like, ‘What are you doing on [May 19]?’

‘I told him nothing and then he asked if I would DJ at his wedding… I was like is this a joke?’

Sabrina said she couldn’t believe she was included on the guest list for one of the biggest events of that year.

Other guests included the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Oprah Winfrey, George and Amal Clooney and David and Victoria Beckham.

She said she felt her phone vibrating with a flurry of excited messages from friends who had seen her on TV arriving at the event.

‘Oh my god, I did not think I would be at that wedding. I kept telling myself it wouldn’t be that big of a deal,’ she revealed.

‘Then I had like 100 text messages saying, ‘oh my god, we can see you on the telly’.

‘Everybody watched that, you can kind of remember where you were when that happened and I was like, ‘What am I doing here?’ But I had the best time; they’re such good people.’
