I tried M&S denim look and these jeans are the best pair I’ve had

Marks and Spencer has resumed online shopping orders for customers ordering clothing – and we couldn’t be more glad. While the platform is not in full operation, there are many new-season pieces available to snap up online, including this Boho outfit I recently got my hands on.
The nostalgic noughties trend has been huge in recent years on both the runways and high street (remember Sienna Miller’s M&S range last year?). There are several variations of Boho styles and while a flowy frilled dress probably defines the style, I think of double denim and suede – an unbeatable duo that’s so chic. I acheived this look recently with M&S’ Per Una Denim Quilted Gilet and Lyocell Blend Pintuck Wide Leg Jeans, which I paired with these Suede Studded Block Heel Clogs – all of which are available to shop online.
As a monochrome lover, it is hard for me to go from black and white to bright tones so rocking a double denim look is a subtle deviation from my failproof timeless classics. Quilted gilets are a great outerwear option for those who don’t want to get buried under a big wool coat when the sun is shining. The Per Una Quilted Jacket, £49.50, is a medium indigo gilet with a denim look, vertical quilts, and a belt to cinch the waist.Â
They are lightweight and while they have no buttons at the front, the belt can be tied to keep the gilet close. I wore a blouse with slightly voluminous sleeves and despite it being sunny in Straford-Upon-Avon, the weather was still a bit chilly for me to wear no jacket in the morning. A quilted cover-up with sleeves like this one from Nobody’s Child (£50, was £125) makes a great alternative and it’s even reversible.
Moving onto the bottoms, I picked these Per Una Lyocell Blend Pintuck Wide Leg Jeans – and they might just be the best pair I’ve had. Designed in a trending wide-leg cut, the jeans are secured by drawstrings instead of traditional zips that often dig into the skin.
Having tried wide-leg jeans from other brands before, the large amount of fabric can often feel quite heavy. But the M&S pair is cleverly stitched with pintuck detailing so it keeps a slimming 3D shape when you move.Â
With three lengths to choose from, I found the regular length too long for my 5’3″ frame so I opted for Short in UK10 and they fitted like a glove. They are very flattering on the stomach and the fabric is soft to the touch. I don’t usually find pockets on jeans useful as they are shallow and tight, but that’s not the case with the Per Una pair, I could fully fit my iPhone 15 Pro Max in the side pockets and there are two more at the back.
This has been a top-selling item on M&S as 75 pairs sold last week and one fan agreed with me about the details at the front: “The centre seam elongates the leg. The fabric is a soft, substantial twill that hangs well.” But another noted: “They are very wide and because the material is soft they tend to be quite swingy around the legs.”
New Look’s Blue Drawstring Waist Denim Trousers, £26.99, are another option shoppers can consider and come in blue and light blue.Â
I completed my outfit just like the M&S model and picked up a pair of Suede Studded Block Heel Clogs. These £75 shoes instantly completed my Boho-inspired outfit. With a slip-on design, they feature 2.5-inch block heels.Â
The stud details elevated the look but within an hour of wearing my new shoes, one of the adhesive studs at the front fell off. Nonetheless, they are comfortable to wear and I wore them for a whole day exploring Shakespeare’s birthplace. I would suggest wearing them on days when less walking is required.
For ultimate comfort, try Dr Martens’ Zebzag Suede Casual Slingback Platform Mules, £110, or the Clarks Torhill Mule in Light Tan Nubuck, £90, that provide cushion insoles.
