Harry and Meghan’s Soho House-inspired makeover of Frogmore Cottage: All final traces of couple are ‘to be wiped from’ the former home they kitted out with a £5,000 copper bath, £500 artwork and Diana’s portrait

They resided in Frogmore Cottage for less than a year in 2019, but the Duke and Duchess of Sussex still splashed £2.4 million on renovations and decor.
In addition to filling the home with furniture from the luxury Soho Home, Harry and Meghan joined the two pre-existing semi-detached houses into one big family home after the late Queen gifted the property as a wedding present.
But in January of 2020, the couple stepped down as working royals and moved to Montecito, California, where they remain with their children, Archie, seven, and Lilibet, four.
Six months later, Harry paid back the £2.4 million and was officially evicted by King Charles in 2023, weeks after publishing his controversial memoir Spare.
In the latest turn, Frogmore’s future is now said to be under consideration, with one option being to subdivide the Crown Estate property as it was in the ‘pre-Meghan and Harry era’, it is understood.
The building’s separation is being assessed for viability, but construction has not yet begun. Insiders claim it would be a major and expensive renovation.
Renovations carried out by the Sussexes involved replacing ceiling beams and floor joists, rewiring the electrical system, installing new gas and water mains, adding £50,000 soundproofing to reduce noise pollution, and decorating the property in vegan paint.
The Duchess enlisted the help of Vicky Charles, a top designer of the Soho House clubs and close friend to the Beckhams and George and Amal Clooney, to decorate the property.
Here, the Daily Mail takes a look inside the Grade-II listed property during Meghan and Harry’s time living there.

The kitchen

As part of their renovations, the couple opted for an open-plan kitchen – complete with a spacious breakfast bar and marble-topped island
The Sussexes provided fans with a snapshot of their kitchen in their Netflix documentary back in 2022.
From the fleeting glance inside the couple’s old home, it appeared as though keen chef Meghan had given the old kitchen, built in 1801, a modern update with industrial-style touches.
As part of their renovations, the couple opted for an open-plan kitchen – complete with a spacious breakfast bar.
Throughout the room, the pair had dark wooden cupboards, finished off with a luxury marble countertop.
To give it a more modern feel, the circular handles on the drawers and cupboards were a trendy shade of gold.
The couple had also added personal touches to the property, adding picture frames to the walls and decorating the kitchen island with a vase of blooming roses.
The living room

Harry and Meghan offered royal fans a glimpse into their UK home as they shared Lilibet’s first birthday portraits in 2022.
The Duke and Duchess hosted a ‘relaxed’ garden party for little Lilibet, who turned one, at their home on the Windsor estate with birthday cake, balloons, party games and picnic snacks, it is understood.
A number of photographs were released of the occasion, which appear to reveal their former home’s stunning living space.
In one shot, just behind the Duchess, Lili, and their group of friends, a vertical light highlighted a piece of artwork on the wall.
The industrial-style gallery lighting appeared to be dark metallic material, in keeping with Meghan’s rugged style.
In another snap, Meghan posed against a wall in a living room in the home, which featured high ceilings and a large piece of framed artwork.
And while the photograph was in black-and-white, meaning the colour of the wall wasn’t clear, it appears to have been painted with a rag rolling effect.
While much of the home appeared modern, a more-traditional floral rug was seen beneath the group in the portrait.
The rug appeared large in the room, running across the length of the wall and almost covering the entire wooden flooring.
Beneath the rug, there appeared to be exposed floorboards.
When the Duke and Duchess were undertaking renovations on the property, it was reported that the original wooden flooring was one of the things they were keen to keep.
To the front right of the image, an armchair covered in bright, light upholstery was clearly visible.
Meghan and Harry’s bedroom
Harry is seen relaxing in one of the bedrooms at Frogmore Cottage while newborn Archie slept on him
Meghan gave fans an intimate glimpse inside her and Harry’s bedroom at Frogmore Cottage in their son Prince Archie’s birthday Instagram post earlier this year.
Meghan’s photograph showed the then-newborn sleeping peacefully on Harry’s chest, as the prince gazed fondly at his son.
A closer look at the photograph reveals that a framed photograph of Princess Diana was carefully placed on Prince Harry’s dresser.
When she moved from Canada to the UK, ahead of her wedding to Prince Harry, Meghan also brought one of her favourite paintings with her.
Hanging on the walls of the bedroom of Frogmore Cottage is a painting by American modern artist Inslee Fariss that previously decorated the guest bedroom at her home in Toronto, where she filmed Suits.
The watercolour is titled ‘Babe No. 5’ and is part of Inslee’s figure study series depicting the female form.
The North Carolina-based artist previously revealed she completed Meghan’s painting ‘a couple of years ago’ before the actress met and fell in love with Prince Harry.
A photo on her Instagram showed Inslee looking at the finished figure study and the caption read: ‘This was taken a couple of years ago when I had no idea: who she was, that she would buy this piece, that she would meet Prince Harry and fall in love, that countless kind strangers from around the world and every person I’ve ever met would later forward me articles about how she had it displayed in her guest bedroom.
‘Isn’t it funny how life turns out?’
Meghan purchased the painting for £520, according to Hello! magazine.
The photo of Prince Archie resting on his father’s chest also showed Meghan decorated their bedroom with a large houseplant.
It is believed to be a Fiddle leaf fig plant, which has glossy green leaves and can retail for up to £300.
Meghan is clearly a fan of the influencer-approved indoor plant; the Duchess also has a fiddle-leaf fig tree at her and Prince Harry’s $14million mansion in Montecito, California.
Finally, Archie’s birthday snap revealed Harry and Meghan’s bedroom wall was also decorated with a gilded mirror.
Other details include brass wall sconces on either side of the mirror.
The bathroom

Royal fans have also been treated to snapshots of the bathroom at Frogmore Cottage.
One sweet picture captured Harry leaning into the bath as he washed the couple’s son, Archie, while Meghan beamed beside him.
The enormous roll-top bathroom featured vintage style taps and a decorative row of tiles lining the walls.
But that was far from the only bath. A second, made of gleaming copper and taking 120 man hours to be hand beaten out, was installed, according to sources who have spoken to The Mail on Sunday.
Set free-standing in the bedroom – as is the current height of fashion – the designer bath was produced by luxury firm William Holland, a supplier for the Soho House chain.
Depending on exactly which model they chose, it will have cost up to £5,000.
The couple’s bathroom tiles had also been provided by another supplier for the Soho House brand, Bert & May. The company provides ‘reclaimed’ tiles salvaged from old buildings in Spain which are brought back to life by craftsmen.
Costing around £5 each, the tiles have the natural wear and tear that adds to a fashionable sense of authenticity.
The garden
A photo of one-year-old Lilibet, taken by esteemed photographer and friend of the Sussexes, Misan Harriman, showed her beaming on a freshly-mowed lawn

Photos taken in the garden of Frogmore Cottage revealed some details about the outside space the Duke and Duchess enjoyed.
A still from the Duke and Duchess’s Netflix documentary Harry & Meghan showed Prince Harry running around the garden of Frogmore Cottage chasing after the dogs.
In the still, the Duke is seen tumbling over the freshly-mown lawn with plenty of trees and bushes in the background, suggesting the couple lived in lush surroundings with lots of greenery.
Also in the shot was a wooden garden bench with a trellis behind and overhead, fit for growing climbing plants such as ivy or wisteria. Although bare at the time the photo was taken, the bench appeared a tranquil place within the garden.
Snaps of Lilibet’s first birthday also offered a look into the garden. One photo of Misan Harriman, a photographer and friend of the Sussexes, showed him relaxing in the Duke and Duchess’s garden on a set of garden chairs.
Behind the esteemed photographer, at the back of the freshly mown lawn, appeared to be a large piece of fencing around a caged area.
While it is not known what this space is used for, sources previously revealed how the couple had an organic vegetable plot created in the gardens of their home.
Keen cooks Harry and Meghan planned to grow their own herbs, fruit and vegetables at Frogmore Cottage on the Queen’s Windsor estate, well-placed sources previously said.
During the one-year-old’s birthday party, it appeared guests sat around a wire table in the garden of the Frogmore Cottage home.
The grey wired table is evident in the forefront of the image with Misan, perhaps having given the Sussexes a place to dine outside, or to watch their children play on the lawn beyond.
Writing in his best-selling memoir, Spare, Harry explained how the couple felt about living in the property.
‘Meg and I moved our office into Buckingham Palace. We also moved into a new home. Frogmore was ready. We loved that place,’ he said.
‘From the first minute. It felt as if we were destined to live there,’ he said. ‘We couldn’t wait to wake up in the morning, go for a long walk in the gardens, check in with the swans. Especially grumpy Steve.
‘We met the Queen’s gardeners, got to know their names and the names of all the flowers. They were thrilled at how much we appreciated, and praised, their artistry.’
