Grant Denyer denies claims of cheating on Deal Or No Deal: ‘They absolutely don’t know they’re going to be picked’

Deal or No Deal host Grant Denyer has reassured fans the reboot of the show is not rigged.

The former weatherman, 46, made the comments after a woman plucked from the studio audience recently won an eye-watering $20,000 on the guessing game show.

Replying to a suggestion that lucky contestant Rhiannon Maxwell knew she was going to be picked, Grant said, ‘Absolutely not’.

‘We haven’t cheated that at all. They are completely blind,’ he said in an interview with industry blog TV Tonight on Tuesday.

He then joked: ‘You’ll see by the reactions because Australians aren’t great actors.’

‘They [in the studio audience] absolutely don’t know they’re going to be picked. Everyone that we’ve picked so far has had no idea.’

Grant recently discussed the changes made to Channel 10’s tea-time favourite, which premiered on Monday.

The revamped Deal or No Deal no longer features a line-up of glamorous models.

It was a role etched in history after the future Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle served as one such model between 2006 and 2007 on the U.S. version of the show.

Instead, it is the contestants who will have to open the the show’s signature briefcases.

Grant also explained to TV Tonight on Friday the show has been cut from an hour to thirty minutes.

‘We’ve reduced the amount of cases from 26 to 22 to accommodate that, allow a little bit more room for it to breathe and just be a bit more playful,’ he said in the interview.

‘There’s a bit more heart and humanity in there. It’s kind of surprised me actually. I was expecting it to be good, but I wasn’t expecting it to be great and I’m bloody loving it.’

Originally screening on Channel Seven, Deal or No Deal was axed in 2014 after running for a decade.

Debuting in 2003, Deal or No Deal was hosted by Andrew O’Keefe, who has since had a very public battle with drug addiction.

He’s also made court appearances recently on domestic violence matters.

Deal or No Deal became a popular fixture on Australian television for more than a decade.

At its peak in 2007-2008, the guessing game regularly pulled in 900,000 viewers.
