Fans point out uncanny resemblance between Meghan Markle and Princess Diana in her birthday post

Fans have spotted a subtle connection to Princess Diana in Meghan Markle’s birthday post.

The Duchess of Sussex took to Instagram to thank her followers ‘for the love’ on her 45th birthday on Tuesday, while sharing photos of herself jumping into an outdoor pool.

Meghan held an array of balloons in the images, as she was captured mid-leap into the water.

But some were quick to notice that one of the pictures shared a striking resemblance to an old photo of her husband, Prince Harry‘s late mom, Princess Diana.

One fan on X, formerly Twitter, pointed out that Meghan posed almost exactly the same as Princess Diana did in a famous paparazzi shot of her jumping off a dock into the water in 1997.

They posted the images side-by-side and it went viral.

In both pictures, the women had their arms up in the air, one leg bent forward and the other outstretched behind them.

In the shot of Princess Diana, which was taken in the summer of 1997 while she was on vacation in Saint-Tropez with Dodi Fayed, the Princess of Wales rocked a black and white swimsuit.

In Meghan’s birthday post, she wore an all-black bathing suit and large sunglasses, and kept her hair pulled back into a ponytail.

A second picture showed her landing in the water making a large splash.

‘Thank you for the birthday love,’ she captioned it.

Meghan’s lifestyle brand As Ever also commemorated the mother-of-two’s 45th birthday by sharing a snap of her wearing a designer striped shirt from Céline and white Anine Bing ‘Brie’ jeans.

The company’s social media post also included a sweet throwback photo of a young Meghan sporting pigtails and a white turtleneck, seated in what looks to be her childhood bedroom.

‘Happy birthday to our founder, @meghan. Lighting No. 084 to celebrate!’ the caption read, referencing a candle sold by the brand, which appeared alongside other As Ever products in one of a quartet of photos posted to mark Meghan’s special day.

Days before, Meghan was seen wearing Princess Diana’s Cartier Tank Française watch, worth $24,020, which was given to her after she married the Duke of Sussex, in promotional footage for As Ever.

Last month, Prince Harry took Meghan and their children to his late mother, Princess Diana’s ancestral stately home in the UK, where they laid flowers at her grave.

After being unable to stay at Buckingham Palace, the Duchess of Sussex revealed to her 4.7 million Instagram followers that the family stayed as guests of Harry’s uncle, Earl Spencer, at Althorp.

In an image shared by Meghan, their daughter Lilibet, five, was seen walking through the Northamptonshire estate’s famous avenue of trees, close to the private island on a lake where Diana is buried.

Ahead of her was Harry and their son Archie, seven, as all three carried large bouquets of flowers to lay at Princess Diana’s grave and the nearby memorial.

Meghan shared the image as part of a carousel of shots that she captioned: ‘Summer holiday.’

Other images showed the family on pristine beaches, frolicking in a pool and dining at a rustic local fish restaurant.

It was not confirmed where they had vacationed, but it was widely believed to have been in Portugal.

Meghan also shared a landscape image that appears to show Loch Glascarnoch in the Highlands, suggesting the family may also have secretly visited Scotland.
