EPHRAIM HARDCASTLE: Should Prince Harry and Meghan Markle start packing for Canada?

Harry’s sighs of relief at Donald Trump’s confirmation that he won’t be deported, even if his visa application is inaccurate, could be short-lived.

For if the document is made public and found to be less than an unrestricted ‘A-1 Head of State Visa’ Harry will have to apply for US citizenship.

In such instances his past drug use, as detailed freely in his memoir, is likely to be a major obstacle.

Another uncertainty is the mercurial Trump himself. He could simply cancel Harry’s visa or change his mind on deporting the prince. Should he and Meghan start packing for Canada?

Chinese documents suggesting the late Queen approved of Andrew’s Beijing business dealings belie the fact that her last encounter with President Xi wasn’t plain sailing.

It was during the 2015 state visit when no one in Xi’s entourage was fully trusted. When HM and Xi were about to begin the carriage procession to Buckingham Palace a third person was prevented from climbing into the coach.

It emerged that he was an unauthorised member of Xi’s own security team, a potential spy masquerading as a translator. HM was later caught on camera telling a police officer involved with the visit that Xi’s team were ‘very rude’.

Joining contenders to succeed Mishal Husain after making her presenting debut on Radio 4’s Today, the Beeb’s Middle East correspondent Anna Foster turns all lovey-dovey, sweetly telling show pony co-host Amol Rajan: ‘Thank you for looking after me. You’re a lovely man, Amol.’

Just before the 9am beeps, northern lass Anna adds: ‘I might come back and do it again soon!’ Should current front runner for the plum Today post, Europe editor Katya Adler, be keeping an eye on Anna?

Barry Humphries’ widow Lizzie Spender, selling 241 lots of his 7,000 books and paintings at Christie’s this week, expresses awe at the fortune he spent collecting. ‘Some husbands contribute to pension funds, but Barry definitely didn’t,’ she says. ‘His pension funds were his books and pictures.’

She points to his fascination with Victorian painter Charles Conder. He paid €12,000 (£10,000) for the medical records of the mental asylum where Conder died of syphilis, after they were found in a Barcelona skip.

‘They were probably worth €10,’ she sighs.

Former EastEnders actress Susan George won’t be celebrating next Thursday’s 40th anniversary live episode. ‘No I didn’t like it, it was too fast,’ she says. ‘It was like a conveyor belt. I was very happy to end it.’

Susan played Margaret Walker whose role as a con artist who duped love interest Terry Raymond was cut short following her departure after only 25 episodes.

After landing the part of Kathy Beale in the first episode of EastEnders in 1985 Gillian Taylforth told her dad Ronald that she would soon be a household name. His response? ‘Yes. So is Domestos.’
