Clarifications and corrections | Daily Mail Online

An article headlined “Leicester Square stab victims were ‘attacked by stranger’: Police believe mother, 34, and daughter, 11, didn’t know knifeman who set upon them in broad daylight before hero security guard leapt to their rescue”, was displayed on our mobile homepage in a way which IPSO have ruled was misleading.

The image on this homepage viewed on a phone gave the impression to some readers that the individual in the image – a security guard at the shop near where the incident took place – was the person arrested for the attack.

The security guard in fact attempted to save one of the women who was attacked – a fact which the article text made entirely clear.

The desktop version of our homepage referred to the individual pictured as ‘Hero security guard’.

This correction has been published following an upheld ruling by the Independent Press Standards Organisation.
