Body language expert explains Meghan Markle’s ‘proud reason’ behind placing her hand on Prince Harry’s chest in sweet moment at premiere of Bob Marley movie in Jamaica

Meghan displayed ‘loving affection’ by placing her hand on Harry’s chest ‘to signal proud ownership at the premiere of the new Bob Marley film One Love, a body language expert told MailOnline today.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex turned heads as they arrived at the Carib Theatre in Kingston, Jamaica on Tuesday.

‘The couple hold and re-hold hands using cupped hands in an ongoing gesture of unity’, Judi James told MailOnline.

The expert claimed Meghan, 42, who was dressed in a full-skirted flowing black gown with a slick-back bun, appeared to signal ‘proud ownership’ with her affectionate gestures, signalling ‘he’s mine’.

She added: ‘It’s careful and elegant-looking rather than a more spontaneous hugging gesture, meaning it seems to be aimed at defining them as an ongoing power couple as well as a romantic couple.’

Ms James said that Harry, 39, who wore a suit and open-necked shirt, appeared to get his cues from confident Meghan who led the greetings.

She said: ‘Meghan’s red carpet body language here looks very celebrity and very Hollywood as she glides elegantly in her full ball gown, using some of her slightly maternal-looking guiding or leading gestures on a more relaxed-looking Harry in his open-neck shirt to ensure the choreography is pitch-perfect.

The pair posed with the president and CEO of Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon, Brian Robbins, and his wife Tracy James.

Meghan and Harry – who stepped down from royal duties four years ago – also stood with prime minister of Jamaica Andrew Holness and his wife Juliet at the premiere.

‘Greeting what looks like their host it’s Meghan moving in for a very affectionate cheek-kiss before she stands back and places a hand on Harry’s back to usher him forward for his own greeting ritual, which seems to give her the edge in terms of confidence and leading.

‘There is one rather sweet moment between Harry and Meghan when they part to walk on and Meghan brushes a hand down her dress and Harry mirrors and copies the gesture with his own outfit as though quietly taking his cue from her.’

She continued: ‘When they pose together for the cameras though there is a telling gesture from Meghan. As Harry stands smiling in the line-up, Meghan stands with her torso turned in his direction but her head and eyes turned to the cameras.

‘His arm is around her back and her hand is carefully placed on his torso, flattened and with fingers pointing upward.

‘Her eyes are softened and narrowed in a display sign to the cameras of loving affection, while that hand seems placed in a very celebrity way to signal proud ownership, in a ‘he’s mine’ signal.’

The film tracks Marley’s life over a two-year span. In December, 1976 when he was shot by gunmen at his Kingston home, to his self-imposed exile in London.

It also looks at his triumphant return to Jamaica in early 1978 for the One Love Peace Concert.

Harry’s father, King Charles, is currently head of state of Jamaica.

The process to sever ties with the British monarchy is underway, following in the footsteps of another former Caribbean possession, Barbados.

Much like the island county’s severance with the monarchy, Prince Harry too revoked his HRH titles and sensationally moved on from being a working royal in early 2020.

He moved to North America with his wife Meghan, who he wed in 2018.

Meghan and Harry now reside in Montecito, California, with their two children, Archie and Lilibet. The Sussexes have made very few public and personal trips back to the UK since leaving their duties behind.

The couple have had many ventures in the entertainment industry since their royal departure. They signed multimillion-dollar deals with Netflix and Spotify to produce podcasts and docuseries, discussing their life within the royal fold.

Six months ago, they parted ways with their $20million Spotify deal, following the production of Meghan’s ‘Archetypes’ podcast series.

On Tuesday night, Prince Harry was seen on the red carpet hugging Ziggy Marley, the 55-year-old musician and son of Bob and Rita Marley, who produced One Love.
