Prince Harry has paid tribute to Britain’s inspirational seriously-ill children as he issues new video asking for nominations for 2024’s WellChild Awards.

The national UK children’s charity works to make it possible for children and young people with exceptional health needs to be cared for at home instead of hospital.

In the video posted on Twitter he said: ‘The well child awards is our chance to celebrate the extraordinary strength and spirit of young people with complex medical conditions from across the United Kingdom.

‘It allows us to shine a spotlight on the resilience and positivity that they demonstrate very single day and to recognize the incredible support from the families and friends and professionals around them.

‘It is such a privilege to honour the immense courage and compassion of this incredible community but to do that we need you to take a moment and nominate the remarkable individuals who inspire you.

‘Your involvement makes a huge difference so please join us in celebrating the amazing superstars to be recognized in the 2024 WellChild awards.’

The Duke of Sussex has been a patron of the organisation for 16 years.

Last September he attended the WellChild Awards at the Hurlingham Club in London, after having missed the previous year as it fell on the same day the Queen died.

At the event he praised his late grandmother saying ‘as you also probably know, she would have been the first person to insist that I still come to be with you all instead of going to her.

‘And that’s precisely why I know, exactly one year on, she is looking down on all of us tonight, happy we’re together continuing to spotlight such an incredible community.’

This video come as Prince Harry is set to appeal after losing a High court challenge against the Home Office over a decision to downgrade his taxpayer-funded personal security when he visits Britain.

The Duke of Sussex took legal action over the move by the Executive Committee for the Protection of Royalty and Public Figures (Ravec) after being told he would no longer be given the ‘same degree’ of publicly-funded protection when in the UK.

His lawyers had claimed he was ‘singled out’ and treated ‘less favourably’ in the February 2020 decision by the body, which falls under the Home Office’s remit.

But at a hearing in London in December, the Government insisted 39-year-old Harry’s claim should be dismissed, arguing Ravec was entitled to conclude the Duke’s protection should be ‘bespoke’ and considered on a ‘case-by-case’ basis.

Two months on, retired High Court judge Sir Peter Lane has now issued his ruling on the case this morning – saying: ‘The application for judicial review is refused.’

But a spokesman for Harry said he would appeal, adding that he was ‘not asking for preferential treatment, but for a fair and lawful application of Ravec’s own rules’
