Meet the young American leaders surprised by Harry and Meghan who put up united display to congratulate them on their achievements over the phone

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle surprised young American leaders with a call to congratulate them for their accomplishments – and some of them have shared how the conversation went.

A video released on Wednesday shows the couple sitting in their Montecito, California, garden as they spoke with grantees of the Responsible Technology Youth Power Fund.

One of the lucky recipients of the first Responsible Technology Youth Power Fund (RTYPF) was Tazin Khan Norelius, 31, who founded and serves as the CEO of Cyber Collective, a company that focuses on data ethics, privacy, and cybersecurity research.

Bangladeshi-American Tazin told PEOPLE that Meghan and Harry congratulated her on her company and said they were proud of her work, with Meghan even asking about her dad.

‘[Meghan] said, “Tell Baba I say hi!” Which was really sweet,’ Tazin said, adding that she started her company in part because her dad was hacked.

‘I was able to share that story, I think that maybe resonated with them, and they congratulated me. When I told my dad, he was just so excited about it,’ Tazin told PEOPLE.

University of North Carolina student, Sam Hiner, was another of the young Americans selected for a phone call with the royals.

He is the executive director of the Young People’s Alliance Education Fund, a coalition of students that promote civic engagement.

‘What I appreciated is that sometimes it feels like we’re not as recognized for the advocacy we do as young people,’ he told PEOPLE.

‘I really appreciated that they saw the importance of the work that we were doing and were speaking to the importance of young people getting engaged in the democratic process.”

Sneha Revanur, founder and president, of Encode Justice, told PEOPLE the couple expressed gratitude for her work.

Encode Justice is a youth-led organization that fights for human rights and in the age of AI.

During the call, Harry told her: ‘Thank you for doing everything that you do. Our kids especially are incredibly grateful.’

‘They don’t know it yet, but they will!’ Meghan added.

Trisha Prabhu, the 21-year-old inventor of ReThink, also received a call from the famous couple. ReThink is an award-winning technology that aims to effectively detect and stop online hate before it spreads.

She told the couple: ‘It was like young people were empowered and emboldened to say things to me online that they would never say to me in person.

‘And so my vision was, can we actually stop the cyber bullying at the source with the cyber bully via a behavioral approach that actually teaches young people to pause and rethink.’

And Harry responded: ‘This is amazing. This is exactly why we do what we do. This is exactly why the Youth Power Fund was created.’

Digital activist Emma Lembke, founder of LOG OFF, also had a chat with Meghan and Harry.

Today’s clip was released by the RTYPF rather than the couple, but features slick footage of them speaking at their £12million mansion in Montecito, California.

The Sussexes’ Archewell Foundation is a founding member of the fund, which is designed to help those working within the ‘responsible technology movement’.

Some 26 youth-led initiatives will receive a total of $2million in grants ranging from $25,000 and $200,000, based on the stage of the organization and its needs.

The money, which will help efforts including ensuring the responsible use of artificial intelligence, has been provided by several sponsors including the Archewell Foundation.

The Duke was dressed smart casually with brown chinos and a white shirt, while his wife – who turns 42 this Friday – wore a $189 camel sleeveless top and matching $162 skirt from Malibu brand Bleusalt, which she paired with minimalist gold earrings.
