Prince Harry has confessed that he and Meghan Markle are unlikely to give their two children any siblings.
‘I think one or two kids is probably enough,’ Harry told CTV News in an interview that aired Thursday. ‘I definitely think that. I know some people who’ve got five. I just say, well, that’s your own fault.’
Harry, who is attending the Invictus Games in Vancouver and Whistler, was responding to a question about parenthood, which he described as ‘amazing.’
He said: ‘It’s a journey. Every single day, every single week is. They just grow and they change and I love the questions they ask and the experiences and the challenges they give you. It’s great.’
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are parents to Archie, 5, and Lilibet, 3.
Harry shared how he evoked his late mother Princess Diana while talking to his son Archie about the wounded warriors competing at the Invictus Games.
‘Archie was asking about landmines … about how some of these guys were blown up,’ Harry said. ‘I think IEDs – improvised explosive devices – is probably a bit too much at this stage. I found myself talking to him about mines. He’s five years old.’
Harry added: ‘Interestingly, it gave me a chance to talk about my mum, his grandma, which I didn’t even really consider, so that became sort of the outcome of the story for him.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle released a holiday card in 2024 that featured a rare glimpse of their children Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet
‘He then saw videos… he wanted to see videos and photographs of his grandma Diana out doing her thing for landmines all those years ago.
‘It produced a very interesting conversation between me and him, different to what I thought it was going to be.’
Princess Diana put the horrors of landmines in the global spotlight in January 1997 when she donned body armor to walk through an active minefield in Angola. She also remotely detonated one of the landmines and spoke to victims.
Harry followed in his mother’s footsteps during an August 2019 trip to Angola.
In his 2023 memoir, Spare, Harry said the experience ‘made me feel closer to her and gave me strength and hope.’ But, he did write about suffering from panic attacks and anxiety.
Harry said it’s not easy to talk to Archie about the wounded warriors competing at the Invictus Games this week.
‘It’s hard because kids, they’ll always ask the right questions. There’s no filter,’ he said. ‘So, you either shut it down straight away, which I will never do, or you engage in the conversation and you try to explain things.’
Harry said he also struggles with knowing how much to talk about with Invictus competitors.

‘Not everybody wants to go that deep. Not everybody needs to go that deep,’ he explained.
‘There will be a time and a place for that. And timing is everything. And the last thing I want to do is be the person to probe a little bit deeper, a little bit further, at a time when they’re just about to go and serve their country again and compete … and they’re not as mentally strong because they’ve just downloaded to me.
‘I try to be as supportive as I can in that regard. It’s all about timing. It’s like an onion. It’s just peeling back those layers, which normally is when you cry.’
Harry said he also takes care of himself.
‘I do my own therapy. I think it’s really important for everything that we take on as individuals trying to help other people, that you also need to find a place to sort of relieve that pressure on yourself.’
Harry added: ‘I get so much out of hearing their stories and that may sound weird but I get my own sort of cure and confidence from them knowing that what we’re doing is working.
‘Being able to, I guess, serve part of my purpose and being able to use the position, the platform, the spotlight in giving these guys all the attention and opportunity. It’s heavy. It’s sensitive.’
The seventh Invictus Games are taking place in Vancouver and Whistler in British Columbia. It is the second time the Games have been hosted by Canada.

In 2020, the couple escaped to Mille Fleurs, a mansion in North Saanich on Vancouver Island that is linked to a Russian businessman.
‘Canada has been really, really good to my wife over all these years and has been really good to us as well,’ Harry said.
‘Certainly, in 2020, it was amazing for us to be in Canada – Vancouver Island – with Archie and be able to go for hikes in amongst the local town and feel protected by them.
‘We were there for more than six weeks before anybody found out. We were bumping into people the whole time. Nobody told anybody. I guess they told other people but there’s not much media or a pap culture on Vancouver Island.’
Harry said he has made an effort to learn about the indigenous populations.
‘I’ve done my own learning. I’ve done maybe 20 hours online and I’ve had many, many conversations – my wife joined me for quite a few of them as well – with a lot of First Nations,’ he said.
‘That’s been an incredible experience. Very much a learning and listening experience.’

The Invictus Games kicked off last Saturday with an opening ceremony at BC Place stadium. The ceremony featured performances by Coldplay’s Chris Martin, popstars Katy Perry, Nelly Furtado and singer-songwriter Noah Kahan.
This Sunday’s closing ceremony will feature country star Jelly Roll and Canada’s Barenaked Ladies.
Harry said getting big-name artists to perform hasn’t been difficult.
‘The nice thing about representing this community – or trying to find talent to come and celebrate this community – is you don’t have to try too hard,’ he said.
‘There are so many people out there in this world who would charge for their time but so many of these individuals love and respect this group of people so much that they will move heaven and earth to be here to support them. And for that all I can be is incredibly grateful.’
When asked where he sees the Invictus Games in ten years time, the Prince replied: ‘I don’t know where the world is going to be in ten years time.
‘All I can say is that we will continue to provide this resource and this experience and this environment for everybody that needs it for as long as they need it.’
