What Meghan Markle wrote about Kate Middleton on The Tig in 2014… as she relaunches lifestyle brand As Ever

Meghan Markle appeared to make a dig at the Royal Family when she relaunched her lifestyle brand American Riviera Orchard with a new name.
On Tuesday, the Duchess of Sussex, 43, introduced her Instagram followers to ‘As Ever’ – a luxury lifestyle company that will sell everything from ‘fruit preserves’ and ‘non-medicated hair preparations’ to candles, stationery and jewellery.
Announcing the rebrand, after American Riviera Orchard ran into a slew of trademark-related troubles last year, Meghan hinted at the sacrifices she made for her husband Prince Harry and the Royal Family – including shutting her lifestyle blog, The Tig.
‘As Ever essentially means as it’s always been, and if you’ve followed me since 2014 with The Tig, you know I’ve always loved cooking and crafting and gardening – this is what I do,’ she said.
‘And I haven’t been able to share it with you in the same way for the past few years, but now I can so, as things are starting to trickle out there, I wanted you to hear it from me first.’
Her comments were perceived as a slight at the Royal Family and Meghan’s sadness over having to close The Tig in 2017, ahead of her and Prince Harry’s royal wedding the following year.
Shortly after Meghan revealed the As Ever rebrand, her past comments about the Princess of Wales in a 2014 post on The Tig resurfaced online.
In a post on the now-defunct website, Meghan showed her feelings about royal princesses before she met Harry – and they were not completely flattering of her sister-in-law.

The former Suits actress reflected on the ‘pomp and circumstance’ of the wedding of ‘Princess Kate’, and made a rather scathing reference to ‘grown women’ who entertain ‘childhood fantasies’ about fairytale princesses.
The entry from 2014, written by Meghan during her time on the legal drama, spoke about her own childhood dream of becoming ‘She-Ra, Princess of Power’.
Describing her icon, she wrote: ‘We’re definitely not talking about Cinderella here,’ and then mentioned the ‘endless conversation’ about Kate Middleton’s lavish wedding to Prince William in 2011.
Speaking of her own childhood fantasies, she said: ‘Little girls dream of being princesses. I, for one, was all about She-Ra, Princess of Power.
‘For those of you unfamiliar with the ’80s cartoon reference, She-Ra is the twin sister of He-Man and a sword-wielding royal rebel known for her strength.
‘We’re definitely not talking about Cinderella here.
‘Grown women seem to retain this childhood fantasy. Just look at the pomp and circumstance surrounding the royal wedding and endless conversation about Princess Kate.’
Meghan’s blog, launched in 2014, was named after her favourite Tignanello wine.
Recalling her first sip, she wrote: ‘It was an ah-ha moment at its finest. For me it became a ‘Tig’ moment – a moment of getting it.’
Meghan’s longtime friend, Suits director and producer Silver Tree, explained in Harry and Meghan’s Netflix docuseries: ‘When she first was describing [the blog] to me, she was like, ‘It’s like your best friend telling you all the fun things you wish you knew about in one place.”

In her piece, the former Suits actress seemed to take a dim view of ‘childhood fantasies’ about fairytale princesses while reflecting on the wedding of Prince William and ‘Princess Kate’

Meghan’s wedding to Prince Harry in May 2018 was a lavish affair – despite her remarks about fairytale princesses
She used the website to share her views on everything from feminism to her passion for philanthropy.
An avid foodie, she also shared recipes – as well as makeup and beauty tips, travel advice, and interviews with her celebrity friends, including tennis star Serena Williams and actress Priyanka Chopra.
She closed down the site in 2017 before announcing her engagement to Harry, describing it as a ‘passion project’ that ‘evolved into an amazing community of inspiration, support, fun and frivolity’.
Meghan’s own version of a fairytale ‘royal wedding’ came in May 2018 when she married Prince Harry and became the Duchess of Sussex.
It came with its own pomp and circumstance as Meghan was walked down the aisle by Charles, now King, during a service at St George’s Chapel, Windsor.
The occasion was also embroiled in drama, detailed by Prince Harry in his explosive memoir Spare.
Harry said Kate messaged Meghan days before the wedding stating there was a problem with the bridesmaid dresses – specifically Princess Charlotte’s.
He claims Meghan tried to send Kate to the tailor at the Palace to have it fixed.

Meghan claimed not to know much about the Royal Family before she met Prince Harry, but she certainly was aware of her sister-in-law Kate (pictured together on Christmas Day 2018 at Sandringham)
According to Harry, Kate told Meghan that Charlotte’s dress was too big for her, and she had cried when she tried it on.
The duke also wrote that it wasn’t the only issue Kate had with the planning of the wedding, mentioning an issue with a party for the page boys, but didn’t go into further detail.
After the discussion, Harry said he returned home to find Meghan sobbing on the floor of the kitchen, overcome with stress and worry.
He added that Kate arrived at the house the next day with a card and apology flowers.
The launch of Meghan’s new lifestyle brand comes just two weeks before the release of her Netflix show With Love, Meghan, after it was delayed from its original January launch date due to the Los Angeles wildfires.
Patent applications uncovered by MailOnline suggest that As Ever will also sell textiles such as tablecloths and napkins, skincare and haircare products and throws, blankets, bedspreads and household scents such as candles and reed diffusers.
There will also be gardening trowels, spades and pruning shears and inside the home there will be cutlery, knives and tableware.
In her announcement, Meghan also confirmed Netflix is a business partner after MailOnline revealed that her products will be sold in two malls in the US at the streaming giant’s new bricks and mortar store.
