According to Sandy Lancaster, stylist at House of Colour, these carefully considered choices are likely a result of previous public criticism.

She tells MailOnline: ‘As a public figure, Meghan’s monochrome looks serve a deliberate purpose: projecting refinement, cohesion and professionalism. This calculated approach is likely guided by an understanding of how her style is scrutinised and interpreted by the public.’

Sandy continues: ‘The choice to avoid bold colour might be a strategic move to draw attention to her messaging or actions rather than her clothing. This suggests a thoughtful, image-conscious decision-making process.

‘Meghan likely collaborates with a stylist who helps her curate these cohesive looks to maintain her desired image of timeless elegance and modernity. This doesn’t make it inauthentic, but it does suggest a degree of orchestration.’

Caped perfection

For Meghan’s first royal engagement with Queen Elizabeth, she chose an ivory dress by Clare Waight Keller, the designer of her wedding gown. 

Blending elegance with a modern edge, the knee-length Versace design featured a sheath silhouette and detachable capelet with padded shoulders.

Meghan expertly added black accessories, including a narrow belt to cinch her waist.

Her bustier top, incorporating a sequinned leaf motif and asymmetric peplum, paired flawlessly with the coordinating fishtail skirt. 

Meghan let her outfit take centre stage, adding Aquazzura pumps and diamond earrings from Birks.

Sandy says: ‘One common critique of monochrome outfits is the risk of looking flat or boring. However, incorporating varying textures – as Meghan has here – adds depth and interest.’

During her trip to Colombia with Harry in August, Meghan embraced the warm weather in a luxurious co-ord from Johanna Ortiz. 

The silk two-piece combined a tie-detailed crop top with a breezy maxi skirt, ideal for the tropical climate. 

Meghan accentuated her ensemble with a Hannia Char boater hat, Cesta Collective crossbody bag and, of course, lashings of Cartier jewellery.

On International Women’s Day in 2019, Meghan participated in Queen Elizabeth’s Commonwealth Trust discussion panel. 

For the occasion, she selected a 60s-inspired printed dress from Reiss, marking the first time she had been seen in the high street brand. 

Meghan completed the look with a tailored Alexander McQueen blazer and Manolo Blahnik pumps, achieving a simple yet elegant aesthetic with a playful hint of whimsy.
