How Meghan Markle has turned to Hollywood stylist Jamie Mizrahi who specialises in ‘shifting public perspectives’ with clothes ahead of American Riviera Orchard launch

With the impending launch of her brand American Riviera Orchard and a new celebrity stylist in tow, Meghan Markle’s Hollywood relaunch is almost complete.

The Duchess of Sussex, 42, has reportedly hired ex-Juicy Couture creative director Jamie Mizrahi, 35, to ensure her wardrobe lines up with her new venture.

The stylist, who also lives in Montecito, California, has had a long-term working relationship with Meghan’s neighbour Katy Perry as well as Hunger Games actress Jennifer Lawrence.

The mother-of-two also recently partnered with luxury denim brand 7 For All Mankind and is responsible for Adele‘s show-stopping wardrobe during her Las Vegas residency.

In November 2023, the Duchess was seen having dinner with Jamie ahead of Katy Perry’s Las Vegas concert, which was also attended by Prince Harry

A source told the Mirror at the time: ‘They were deep in conversation.

‘It looked like Meghan is going for a restyle and Jamie is the go-to stylist for every Hollywood A-Lister, including Katy Perry and Britney Spears.’

Here FEMAIL delves into Jamie’s impressively career and how she’ll help Meghan adapt her wardrobe for the launch of her business.

Breaking into the fashion industry

Jamie grew up in Short Hills, New Jersey, and graduated from George Washington University in 2008.

After this, Jamie set her sights on getting a job in the fashion industry and worked for stylist Elizabeth Sulcer.

In an interview with Fashionista in 2016, Jamie explained how she spotted a job pop up in the Vogue events team and went for it because it seemed more stable.

She said: ‘I had just graduated and I really loved styling, but there was something about coming from college and not having a proper desk job lined up, where you have hours and you have steady pay. That was a little concerning at first.’

While at Vogue, Jamie met her husband Nico and relocated to Los Angeles to be with him.

During this time, Jamie returned to styling and bagged work assisting designer Simone Harouche and stylist Petra Flannery.

Jamie met Cassandra Grey, who was in the process of setting up the lifestyle website Violet Grey and asked her to help with creative consulting for clients.

Jamie explained: ‘At the time, she brought in January Jones, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Eva Mendes and Julianne Hough. I would randomly work with them on things, whether it meant doing their closets or shopping for them.’

As Violet Grey started moving in a more beauty-heavy direction, Jamie began taking courses at LA’s Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising.

In 2012, Jamie was asked by Eva Mendes to join her on the Place Behind the Pines press tour, which catapulted her career to the next level and resulted in Jamie also working with Britney Spears.

Discussing working with Britney, Jamie previously told the Wall Street Journal : ‘She was always very clear and direct about her [fashion] choices, with very little regret.

‘She never chased the fashion trends and was always herself. She was also incredibly kind and was a pleasure to work with.’

Around this time, Jamie joined the books at The Wall Group and gone on to work with Katy Perry, Kate Hudson, Jessica Alba, Leighton Meester, Kate Upton and Riley Keough.

Elsewhere in her Fashionista interview, Jamie said discussed how she prepares for new clients by creating moodboards of their best looks.

She said: ‘I do a little research on them: the roles that they’re about to play, who they are as a person, what they wear in their street life and what they’ve worn on the red carpet. I compose a document — what the media has perceived as their best looks and what I think looks great on them as far as highlighting their best outfits and where they look the most comfortable…

‘Then I’ll compose a mood board of press looks, day looks, inspiration; next I’ll do evening, red carpet looks. Then I’ll do street style, hair and makeup.’

In 2014, Jamie even appeared in Nicole Richie’s Candidly Nicole VH1 series and has also gone on to work with The Bear actor Jeremy Allen White.

In 2017, Jamie was appointed Creative Director of Juicy Couture at the age of 29.

Speaking to British Vogue at the time, Jamie gushed about her love of the brand as a teenager.

She said: ‘I had everything – the tracksuits, the linen, the cardigans, the graphic tees. I wore it all the time.’

However, the stylist said she was keen to move the brand away from its noughties image and make it ‘modern and wearable’.

The following year, Juicy Couture made its runway debut at New York Fashion Week, which was widely praised.

In 2018, Jamie also co-founded the underwear brand The Kit Undergarments with Simone Harouche, the designer she had previously assisted when she first moved to LA.

In 2022, Jamie’s career reached new heights when she was asked to work on Adele’s wardrobe for her hugely successful Las Vegas residency.

Speaking to the Wall Street Journal that November, Jamie said her first brief was: ‘Imagine a Formula 1 pit stop, but with couture and diamonds.’

However, Adele and Jamie decided that she should only wear one show-stopping gown per performance after taking that approach with her Hyde Park shows that summer.

As a result, Jamie commissioned 20 custom couture gowns to be made for Adele for each weekend, which were then archived.

Gushing about her relationship with Adele, Jamie previously wrote on Instagram: ‘I am beyond grateful to Adele for trusting me to be a small part of this personal journey.

‘You are an inspiration to the world but are a special gift to those lucky enough to know you.’

Helping celebrities ‘reinvent’ themselves

What’s more, Jamie has also previously discussed how she helps her clients reinvent themselves, which may have attracted Meghan Markle in the wake of her new career move.

Jamie previously told WSJ: ‘[Styling] it’s not just about picking out the most flattering outfit. Part of my job is to look at the larger picture of my clients’ careers. I have to take into account what their goals are. Do they want to be taken more seriously in their industry?

‘Do they want to be less sexualized? Are they looking to step into a more mature phase of their life or looking for someone to help them take risks? Do they want a specific type of role that they haven’t gotten because they are looked at in a certain light?

‘My job is helping present my clients to the world. How you choose to dress is a clear statement of how you want people to view you—and shifting that perspective can change your whole career. And that’s a business in itself.’

Since Meghan is rumoured to have started working with Jamie, the Duchess has stepped out in a series of neutral and streamlined outfits.

For the International Women’s Day panel at the SXSW festival, Meghan wore a pinstriped silk shirt and skirt set from Giuliva Heritage.

To attend a One Year to Go Event for the Invictus Games in February, the Duchess looked effortlessly elegant in a £1,030 camel coat by Sentaler and suede gloves.

Earlier this month, Meghan launched her luxury lifestyle brand American Riviera Orchard with a glitzy Instagram video.

The Duchess of Sussex’s new project is said to have been in the works for more than a year – and will feature ‘all the things that are close to her heart’.

The flash company is set to coincide with the launch of a new cookery show featuring Meghan on Netflix – where she will be making and selling her own products. It will lead onto a book and blog to go alongside her cookery displays.

It is understood that a trademark application has been made covering cutlery – knives forks spoons – cookbooks and electronic cookbooks, coffee, jams jellies and butters.

It also extends to a physical shop from which tableware, mugs, jams, tablecloths and recipe books could be sold.

In the new video, Meghan is seen whisking in a stunning rustic kitchen, while a woman’s hands are seen arranging pink and white flowers.
