Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan are continuing to support Ukraine amid Russia’s invasion.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced today through their nonprofit, Archewell, that they made a donation to help “a coalition of Ukrainian media such as The Kyiv Independent, supported through the organization Are We Europe.”
The aid comes as local and foreign journalists continue to be injured and killed by Russian attacks while on assignment in Ukraine. Fox News cameraman Pierre Zakrzewski, 55, and Ukrainian journalist Oleksandra Kuvshinova, 24, who was also working for Fox, were killed outside of Kyiv when their vehicle was struck by fire. Journalist Benjamin Hall was also injured in the attack, Fox confirmed.
“The truth is the target. Russian troops fired at Fox News camera crew near Kyiv,” the Defence of Ukraine wrote on Twitter.
Ukrainian cameraman Yevhenii Sakun died on March 1 after Vladimir Putin’s army bombed a television transmission tower in Kyiv, per New York Magazine. And on March 13, American documentary filmmaker Brent Renaud was killed after his vehicle was fired on. The attack also left American photojournalist Juan Arredondo injured.
The number of local journalists who have died in the war is still unclear.
Apart from providing aid for Ukraine’s media, Meghan and Harry have made donations to various organizations working on the ground in the country, including HIAS and The HALO Trust. And they are continuing their work with World Central Kitchen and The World…
