Meghan Markle has long been vocal about the way some press outlets have treated her, pinpointing certain British tabloids during her and Prince Harry‘s tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey last year. Now, a former co-star of hers, Simon Rex, who the Duchess appeared in an episode of Cuts with back in 2005, has spoken out about being asked to lie about Meghan by a particular newspaper.
Not naming the tabloid in question, Simon said during a recent interview with The Guardian that he was approached by a paper who also offered him $70,000 to claim that he and the Duchess had slept together – when in reality their interaction went no further than a platonic lunch. Simon added that as the time he was struggling for money, but said he would rather be on food stamps before lying.
“I was broke as fuck! I really needed the money. But I’ll be on food stamps before I do that,” he explained, before adding that after getting wind of the newspaper’s illegal practices, that Meghan offered up a very sweet gesture in response.
Simon says that the Duchess wrote him a letter (and given her talent for calligraphy, we imagine it’s pretty nicely done too) and thanked him for being a decent person. “She said: ‘It’s nice to know there are still good people’,” the actor, who has also appeared in Scary Movie,…
