Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, is being touted on Sunday, Feb. 21, as the “most inspirational” of the current members of the British royal family by experts, despite expecting a bevy of PR battles in the future from her own family.
Dr. Shola Mos-Shogbamimu, a lawyer and activist, said that, as much as the Queen continues to be the “most influential” figure in the royal family, the Duchess of Sussex continues to be the most inspirational character in the British peerage today, according to Marie Claire.
“I think some of Meghan’s inspiration comes from her and how she’s handled all this. Clearly, she got to a point where she was like ‘Forget you all, I deserve better than this.’ But most so is the reaction she has been able to generate from people who would not normally talk about these things,” she said.
Mos-Shogbamimu pointed out that Markle has inspired people of color to band together as they see in real-time how she has been treated by the Royal Family and the media, relating to the alienation that she seems to face for her skin color.
“I think that she’s been able to generate the kind of support that no other member of the Royal Family, bar Princess Diana, has been able to generate,” Mos-Shogbamimu said.
