Prince Andrew addresses Virginia Giuffre’s allegations in 2019
Andrew has been embroiled in a civil legal case in New York, with Virginia Roberts Giuffre suing the Duke of York for allegedly sexually assaulting her 20 years ago, when she was a teenager. Ms Guiffre alleges she was trafficked to Andrew by convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell. The royal has vehemently denied the claims on a number of occasions.
On Monday, the civil case saw Ms Guiffre 13-year-old damages settlement against Epstein made public.
The document, disclosed by the New York court, revealed Epstein paid Ms Guiffre $500,000 (£371,000) to end her claim against him, while Ms Guiffre also agreed not to sue anyone connected with the financier who could be a “potential defendant”.
The document was released ahead of a critical hearing in Andrew’s case and the interpretation of the settlement will be central to the arguments of both sides.
Andrew stepped down from royal duties in 2019 after facing intense media scrutiny for his former relationship with the late Epstein, who killed himself in prison earlier that year.
