After Prince Harry and Meghan Markle shocked royal watchers all over the globe from their decision to step down as working royals, many speculated that they had burnt bridges with the family. Shortly after the announcement, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex moved to California, and have scarcely returned. Meghan has not stepped on British soil since leaving in March 2020, nor have her two children, Archie Harrison and Lilibet Diana.
Prince Harry has only returned twice since. Once for the funeral of his late grandfather, the Duke of Edinburgh, and again for the unveiling of a statue of his late mother, Princess Diana.
Former chief royal photographer of the Daily Mirror, Kent Gavin, spoke to 9Honey royal reporter Natalie Oliveri about Meghan and Harry’s time in the Firm.
Mr Gavin said: “I couldn’t see at the time how Meghan, this Hollywood movie star, living the life that she had, how she was going to understand the workings of the monarchy.
“The dos and the donts, there’s things you can do and you can’t do. That’s one of the things she couldn’t accept.
“Of course, she didn’t get any support as we now know from the Palace, according to the Oprah interview.
“Whether there’ll be a way back for Harry, whether he’ll want to come back, we’ll have to wait and see.
“I think he will, I hope they will.
“Only time will tell.”
