Anthony Joshua returns to the ring tonight as he faces Oleksandr Usyk at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The Briton puts his WBA, WBO, IBO and IBF titles on the line against the Ukrainian in his first fight since December 2020 against Kubrat Pulev. He has promised to do all he can to secure the fight everyone wants to see — a Battle of Britain clash with Tyson Fury.
He gave a moving speech in front of several members of the Royal Family, and hundreds more, at Westminster Abbey to celebrate Commonwealth Day.
After his speech, in which he spoke of his Nigerian heritage, he was introduced to the Queen.
He added: “I told her that her dress matched her eyes really well.
“I wasn’t flirting with her,” he chuckled. “She was very respectful, thanked me for coming and said I had made a lovely speech.
“I wasn’t really expecting her to stay, ‘Oh by the way, knock out that Fury!’
“But in The Crown there’s a part where she’s encouraged to meet ordinary people as she’s growing up and one of them is a British champion boxer.
“In the show she looks at her mum in disgust and I was like, ‘Oh my God, that’s what she thinks of me’.”
Her Majesty’s smile when speaking to the boxer suggests otherwise, but Joshua felt she “definitely wasn’t…
