Former England outside centre and Gloucester Rugby star Mike Tindall has opened up about the secrets to a successful marriage ahead of his 10-year wedding anniversary next month. Mike married Zara Phillips on July 30, 2011, and the two are now the proud parents of three beautiful children. Just over a month before their anniversary, Mike spoke to The Telegraph about what he thinks has made their relationship so strong.
Referencing the Royal Family, he said: “I can only say how kind they’ve been to me, and how welcoming they’ve been to me since joining the family. And how they’ve made my family welcome.
“I’ve always felt part of it and I think that’s down to what an amazing woman the Queen is.
“They’re a fantastic family. How many families say that they will get together as a whole family six to eight times a year?
“It just doesn’t happen for me. I would like it to happen more, and this is where I have to perhaps learn a bit more from the wife, but it’s very rare.
“They’re very close and it’s great to see.”
While the Royal Family has without a doubt been kind to Mike, in 2011, the rugby star revealed Princess Anne had asked him to get his nose straightened before his wedding.
Mike told producers and crew on the set of Sky One sports quiz ‘A League Of Their Own’ that his royal mother-in-law-to-be had expressed her fears about how the wedding photographs would look.
He said: “Princess Anne asked me if I’d have the surgery.”
