Royal biographer and friend to Diana, Princess of Wales, Stewart Pearce recalled a time where Princess Diana escaped Kensington Palace in a disguise to go and watch movies with him. He explained the profile of the royal meant she would be unable to simply walk down the street and so adopted a trench coat and a wig to go watch Tom Cruise in Jerry Maguire. Mr Pearce explained he had spent several times with her in public which was overwhelming but had fond recollections of their secret time together.
Speaking to US Weekly, Mr Pearce was asked what the relationship between him and Diana was like and how he dealt with the press and public pressure.
He told the show: “Well, we had a very confidential relationship so I didn’t spend a lot of time with her in public but when I did, she was always in disguise.
“In other words, she would call me and say, darling Stewart, shall we go to the movies?
“And I would say ‘can you?’ and she was saying whatever, meet you on High Street Kensington.
“Which is very near to her [and she would say] meet you on the corner I’ll be wearing a black trench coat.
“So I would get to the corner and of course arrived slightly early and she would come walking down.
“But nobody else knew that she was her because she’d be wearing a long blonde wig, sunglasses with a black trench coat.
“And then we would walk very briskly down the street to the movie theatre and go and see a movie.
