Many who have been following the royals in recent months will remember that during the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s Oprah Winfrey interview, the Prince said that his father had “cut him off financially” in the first quarter of 2021.
However, there was some confusion when Clarence House’s financial reports which cover the last financial year, from April 2020, showed Prince Charles actually had supported both Prince Harry and Prince William, giving out £4.5m in total to his sons and their wives.
A spokesperson for Prince Charles also confirmed that he had offered a “substantial” sum to Prince Harry and Meghan.
“That funding ceased in the summer of last year. The couple are now financially independent,” the source added.
However, Harry and Meghan’s people responded shortly afterwards, making clear that this wasn’t in contradiction to what Harry had originally said – despite some people believing it to be so.
The Sussex’s rep said that the recent financial reports actually support the comments they made in March, explaining that naysayers were following “two different timelines.”
“You are conflating two different timelines and it is inaccurate to suggest there is a contradiction,” Harry and Meghan’s rep said.
