Zara revealed her youngest daughter Lena was almost given another name. However, she realised the name she and Mike had their hearts set on would have created hilarious initials when paired with the baby’s surname Tindall.
In a resurfaced interview to the Telegraph in 2018, Zara said: “I liked the name Elena but I didn’t want her initials to be ‘ET’ so she’s Lena.”
Following the birth of their second daughter on June 18 2018, a spokesperson for the couple said Mike and Zara had chosen to call her Lena because “it is just a name they liked”.
Lena, pronounced “Lay-na”, is a Greek name that means “light”.
But the now three-year-old also has another, very royal, name – Elizabeth.
Among the other royal children to have been given Elizabeth as a second name there is Princess Charlotte – whose full name is Charlotte Elizabeth Diana.
Prince Harry and Meghan also paid tribute to the Queen when naming their daughter, born on June 4.
However, they decided to use the monarch’s childhood nickname, naming the newborn Lilibet ‘Lili’ Diana.
Among the grandchildren of the Queen, Zara, Princess Beatrice and Lady Louise have also been named ‘Elizabeth’.
Zara and Mike have two other children – Mia Grace, born in 2014 and Lucas Philip, born in late March this year.
Lucas’s second name pays tribute to both the late Duke of Edinburgh and Mike’s father, Philip Tindall.
