Meghan Markle “would [never have] got the opportunity to modernise the monarchy like she wanted”, royal commentators have claimed. The Duchess of Sussex’s ability to “change” the Royal Family was discussed on the latest episode of Us Weekly’s Royally Us podcast. This comes after actress Jodie Turner-Smith told the Telegraph that Meghan and Prince Harry could have “modernised” the institution.
Ms Turner-Smith said: “It was a terrible missed opportunity, the way in which it was not allowed to be something that really modernises that institution, and to change it to something for the better.
“I think that’s why there’s dysfunction there.”
Royally Us host Molly Mulshine agreed: “From what we hear from Meghan and Harry, it sounds like there were issues on both sides.
“But I think the onus was probably on the Royal Family to make it as easy a transition as possible for both of them.”

Co-host Christina Garibaldi added: “I don’t think she would have ever gotten the opportunity to modernise the monarchy like she probably wanted to or probably hoped.
“We saw it try to happen with Diana, and it didn’t work.
“They’re so stuck in their ways that I don’t think she could have made the changes that she wanted to.
“But it would have been nice to see her try and see what could have happened.”
Diana spoke about the obstacles she came up against in the monarchy when she tried to “do things differently”.
