In preparation for Prince Philip’s funeral this Saturday, Prince Harry recently flew back to the United Kingdom. Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, made efforts to attend alongside her husband, but her doctors did not clear her for travel, as the Duchess is in the third trimester of her pregnancy.
Though Meghan cannot attend in person, a source told People that both she and Harry were “in contact” with Queen Elizabeth after the Duke of Edinburgh’s death.
“It was always a given that Harry would return to England for his grandfather’s passing,” the California-based source said. “Meghan expressed condolences. The Queen understands why she can’t travel at the moment.”
The Duchess will remain in Montecito, California with her son, Archie, who turns two this May. Prince Harry arrived in the United Kingdom on April 12. He is now staying at his and Meghan’s home, Frogmore Cottage, where he is following all COVID-19 safety protocols.
