Republic is an organisation that campaigns for the monarchy to be abolished and for the Queen to be replaced by a democratic, elected head of state. Graham Smith told Express.co.uk that the Royal Family owed the British public a more detailed response to Meghan Markle‘s claims instead of the limited statement the Palace released.
Mr Smith said: “I think the response from the Palace was contemptuous.
“It is a public institution, they are on the public payroll, they do actually owe us an explanation for what they do and how they behave.
“To invite people to doubt Meghan’s version of events and say they are going to deal with it internally shows complete contempt for the British public.”
The Palace’s statement read: “The whole family is saddened to learn the full extent of how challenging the last few years have been for Harry and Meghan.
“The issues raised, particularly that of race, are concerning. While some recollections may vary, they are taken very seriously and will be addressed by the family privately.
“Harry, Meghan and Archie will always be much-loved family members.”
