The disappearance and murder of the 33-year-old marketing executive sent shockwaves through the British public and Kate was also deeply moved by the tragedy, having also experienced walking alone at night in London. The Duchess was seen at a vigil for Sarah Everard to pay her respects. And now she has written a letter to offer her deepest condolences, an insider has revealed.
A source said: “This was a deeply personal and heartfelt letter, simply to express her absolute sadness at what Sarah’s family and loved ones are going through.
“The Duchess knows that no words can change what has happened, but wanted to let them know that they and Sarah are in her thoughts.
“This was a private matter to her and she wanted to show unity with everyone else who shares these feelings.”
A source close to Sarah’s family said they were “extremely touched” to have received the letter.
A Kensington Palace spokesperson said: “We do not comment on private correspondence.”
Before becoming a member of the Royal Family, the Duchess lived less than three miles from Clapham in South London where Sarah went missing on March 3.
Kate joined mourners earlier this month when she paid her respects and left flowers at a memorial to Sarah at Clapham Common.
According to reports, the Duchess looked “quite emotional” during the unannounced solo appearance at the memorial.
At the time, a royal source told the Mirror that Kate “wanted to pay her respects to the family and to Sarah”.
