Duchess Meghan continues to support U.K. organizations dear to her heart.
The Duchess of Sussex donated a generous £10,000, or about $13,700, from The Royal Foundation to Himmah, a U.K.-based community project that tackles poverty, racism, and social exclusion. Her donation uses additional proceeds raised from her popular recipe book, Together: Our Community Cookbook, which she published in 2018 to benefit Hubb Community Kitchen.
Himmah, which announced the news in a press release today, also works to provide more than 650 emergency food packages every month to those in need across the city, and serve more than 60 hot meals to the public every week.
Meghan’s donation will go toward stocking the group’s food bank, as well as purchasing equipment and providing funds for the Salaam Shalom Kitchen, the sole Muslim and Jewish community kitchen based in the United Kingdom. Meghan ultimately decided on donating to Himmah in order to “continue transforming lives through the power of cooking and food.”
The director of Himmah, Sajid Mohammed shared the news with BAZAAR.com today, and admitted that he didn’t initially believe that the duchess herself was attempting to make a donation.
