Meghan Markle would voluntarily drop her Duchess of Sussex title if she goes ahead with a US presidential campaign. Meghan has been discussed as a potential successor to Joe Biden if the current POTUS does not run for a second term. Royal commentator Victoria Arbiter told Australia’s 7News that Meghan would drop her royal titles to avoid any “conflict with her oath for public office”.
Victoria Arbiter said that Harry and Meghan would never be stripped or lose their royal titles.
Instead, the Queen is set to allow Meghan and Harry to keep hold of their royal titles – like the Duke and Duchess of Sussex – for the rest of their lives.
However, Meghan could spark a rift with the Royal Family by voluntarily stripping herself of the title ahead of a presidential run.
7News’ Michael Usher questioned whether a political bid would force Meghan “to renounce her Duchess title”.

Ms Arbiter responded: “The Duke of Windsor, formerly Edward VIII, abdicated the throne and he never lost his titles.
“But, US constitutional experts say that were she to run for president, it would be in direct conflict with her oath for public office.
“Congress could make an exception but were she to run, it is more likely she would do so as Meghan Markle than as the Duchess of Sussex.”
