Prince Andrew has ‘tarnished’ the Royal Family says expert
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex told Oprah Winfrey in their interview, which aired last week, that they were told their son would not have the title of Prince. While Meghan said this would be breaking with “protocol”, Archie is actually not entitled to that rank at the moment as per Letters Patent, which determine who is given the title of Prince or Princess. In fact, Prince Andrew reportedly had to really push for his daughters Beatrice and Eugenie to have their titles, despite them being entitled to them.
Andrew reportedly wanted them to be fully recognised as Princesses “by blood” and lobbied for more high-profile roles for them within the family.
This was in direct opposition to the wishes of his older brother Prince Charles, who favoured a slimmed-down monarchy and is expected to “modernise the system”, cutting all but the most senior royals from public duties when he is King.
Pod Save the Queen is hosted by Ann Gripper and features Daily Mirror royal editor Russell Myers.
Mr Myers noted that Andrew had pushed for Beatrice and Eugenie to be Princesses, but said he wasn’t sure whether it had really “served them well”.
