The Duchess of Cambridge is said to be feeling “saddened, disappointed and hurt” after her sister-in-law told Oprah it was Kate who had made her cry in the lead up to the royal wedding, and not the other way around.
Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, claimed Kensington Palace refused to clear up a story involving her and Kate, calling it “the beginning of a real character assassination”.
“The narrative with Kate, which didn’t happen, that’s when everything changed,” the Duchess of Sussex told Oprah.
Meghan said it was Kate who made her cry during a fitting for bridesmaid dresses, despite reports at the time claiming the reverse.
“She was upset about something, she apologised, she owned it,” Meghan said.
“She was upset about something, about the flower girl dresses and it made me cry and it really hurt my feelings.”
Kate later sent Meghan flowers to apologise, the Duchess of Sussex told Oprah.
Royal commentator and author Katie Nicholl says it’s been “mortifying” for the Duchess of Cambridge to have the story dragged up again, more than two years after the incident.
“This has been a very hard few days for Kate,” Nicholl told the UK’s OK magazine.
“Behind closed doors she has been saddened, disappointed and hurt.”
