The explosive Prince Harry and Meghan interview with Oprah Winfrey has been on everyone’s minds.
But viewers of the two-hour tell-all, which was aired on ITV on Monday night, have been left puzzled over some of the allegations made against the royal family.
One confusion has been around the couple’s baby Archie, who was not assigned a royal title.
The Duchess of Sussex told Oprah that whilst pregnant, she was shocked to discover their son would be denied his ‘birthright’ of a prince title and the police protection that comes with it.
“They were saying they didn’t want him to be a prince or a princess – not knowing what the gender would be – which would be different from protocol,” Meghan said.
She expressed concern over “the idea of our son not being safe, and also the idea of the first member of colour in this family not being titled in the same way that other grandchildren would be.”
When Oprah questioned if she thinks it’s because of his race, Meghan responded: “In those months when I was pregnant, all around this same time, so we [had] the conversation of he won’t be given security, he’s not going to be given a title.
“And, also, concerns and conversations about how dark his skin might be when he’s born.”
She mentioned the protocol set out by King George V.
Is Archie entitled to be a prince?
