The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have donated to a women’s shelter that was damaged in a large storm which hit Texas.
The Genesis Women’s Shelter and Support in Dallas was badly damaged by Winter Storm Uri as its ceiling collapsed and burst pipes caused flooding of the onsite school.
Women homed at the centre in Dallas – which was forced to close for the first time in its 35-year history – were relocated to hotels, other shelters and the homes of family and friends.
Following a series of donations to the organisation, CEO Jan Langbein said “our hearts have been warmed by the support and generosity of people from all 50 states and five foreign countries”.
She added: “Today we have been notified that through the actions of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s nonprofit, Archwell Foundation, Prince Harry and Meghan will make a donation to help us get back on our feet.”
