20 surprising quotes from Meghan Markle’s new Netflix series as Duchess opens up about her life in California

Meghan Markle’s new lifestyle Netflix series finally hit screens across the globe on Tuesday – and it’s filled with revealing one-liners from the Duchess of Sussex.

During the eight episodes, Meghan maintained a relaxed approach, playfully chatting to guests as she offered lifestyle tips from an $8million (£5million) mansion near the Sussexes’ Montecito home.

The series, promoted as a chance to see Meghan ‘share personal tips and tricks, embracing playfulness over perfection’, is widely regarded as a make-or-break moment for the couple’s streaming deal.

Viewers received an intimate glimpse at Prince Harry’s wife in the show, who frequently delivered surprising and often humorous remarks while carrying out everyday tasks at the luxury Californian residence.

In one light-hearted moment, the mother-of-two jokingly told audiences at home how her ‘bacon brings all the boys to the yard’, referencing the 2003 song Milkshake by Kelis, as she discussed her family’s breakfast preferences.

Elsewhere, Meghan revealed her defiant side when she told her close friend, Mindy Kaling, ‘you know I’m a Sussex now,’ after The Office actress referred to her via her maiden name.

Netflix viewers also gained insight into the former Suits star’s preferences, including her habit of shying away from tap water when making ice, ‘do not just use tap water,’ she said in the show and instead recommended using distilled or boiled water.

Here, Femail reveals 20 of Meghan’s quotes in her Netflix show, With Love, Meghan…

1. ‘My bacon brings all the boys to the yard’

Meghan revealed some of her husband Prince Harry‘s favourites foods while cooking up a storm in the series.

While making brunch, Meghan joked: ‘I find when I’m cooking bacon, my kitchen very immediately becomes full of husband and three dogs.

‘It’s not my perfume that’s bringing them all in… My bacon brings all the boys to the yard,’ she said, referencing the 2003 song Milkshake by Kelis.

2. ‘You know I’m Sussex now’

In episode two of ‘With Love, Meghan’, the Duchess called herself a ‘latchkey kid’ who ‘grew up with a lot of fast food and TV tray dinners’, listing off US chains Pollo Loco, Taco Bell and Jack In The Box.

But guest Mindy Kaling prompted a defiant response from the former working royal when she said: ‘I don’t think anyone in the world knows that Meghan Markle has eaten Jack In The Box and loves it.’

The Duchess replied: ‘It’s so funny you keep saying Meghan Markle, you know I’m Sussex now… You have kids and you go ‘No, I share my name with my children’.

‘I didn’t know how meaningful it would be to me but it just means so much to go ‘This is our family name. Our little family name’.’

After being corrected, The Office star seemingly awkwardly responded: ‘Well, now I know and I love it.’

3. ‘Talk in our bee voice’

Early in episode one, we see Meghan tending to her bee hives during which she admitted that she never enjoyed eating honey until she learnt more about the process.

‘The biggest thing is keeping a low tone,’ she said. ‘Talk in our bee voice. Oh they’re busy. Busy Bees. I’ve got good vibes. Good hives, good vibes.

‘You know what it is. It’s like also that reminder to do something that scares you a little bit.

‘I think that’s part of it, but I’m trying to stay in the calm of it, because it’s beautiful to be this connected.’

4. ‘I try to under salt’

The actress quips back: ‘I love knowing that your husband loves it salty,’ before Meghan offers her a wink in reply.

5. ‘Sun tea is something I’ve been making for a very long time’

During episode four, Meghan opened up about how she passed time during her childhood and the similar traits her son Archie has.

She revealed that she makes ‘sun tea’ by leaving bags in cold water outside for two to three hours.

Explaining the strange brewing method, she said: ‘Sun tea is something I’ve been making for a very long time. I made it as a kid and now I make it with my own kids.

‘It’s really easy, it’s just tea. You can use nice silk bags, lots of loose leaf tea and you just let it steep with the warmth of the sun.’

She added: ‘As a kid I was taking a bag of tea from the drawer in my house and putting it in a mason jar or probably an empty jar that once held spaghetti sauce.

6. ‘Maybe you want a lavender towel’

Speaking about dunking towels in lavender oil to ‘treat yourself’ after a long day at work, Meghan said: ‘We’re gonna get some very basic towels.

‘Don’t use the beautiful ones that you have in your bathroom. These are the ones you should think of as gym towels.

‘You’re going to we them and you can either put a drop of the lavender oil in each one or dunk them or just give yourself a lavender bath and they get dunked in the same thing… After a long day at work, maybe you want a lavender towel. Treat yourself.’

7. ‘Do not just use tap water’

Meghan demonstrated how to freeze edible flowers in ice cubes and orange juice for cocktails, but warned viewers off using regular tap water.

14. ‘Think about it like an outfit’

Meghan talked about her process of selecting flowers: ‘First thing I do is see what colour I gravitate to, and then everything goes from there.

She also warned people off putting flowers in a clear vase. ‘I don’t know who has time to change the water on flowers every day,’ she said.

She said: ‘Whenever I have someone come and stay, one of my favourite things to do is prep the guest room.

‘I think of two places for the guest experience … what’s at the side of the bed for them that’s their good morning and good night moment? And what’s in the bathroom for them so they can have a beautiful soak at the end of the night?’

She created a tray of homemade bath salts and emptied snacks into clear plastic gift bags for her friend, make-up artist Daniel Martin – and even labelled them as having peanuts even though Martin is not allergic to nuts.

But she warned ‘don’t tie a knot without a bow’ in case your guest cannot open it.

17. ‘Clean as you go’

‘So, just as with cooking, I will always have like a garbage vessel. Everything stays organised, clean as you go,’ Meghan declared.

Crepes, not fluffy pancakes, are more special, according to Meghan.

While baking, she said about the cake: ‘There’s something really satisfying about a cake that is bare on the outside but she is so beautiful on the inside and you just don’t know how good she is until you go deep and you get to know her better.

‘Baking is not my favourite thing but I will do it for one of my favourite people,’ she added to make up artist Daniel.
