1p an hour heating method recommended by Martin Lewis’ MSE is under £40 for Black Friday
As temperatures drop, keeping warm inside and outside the house is a priority.
Energy bills remain at a high, and so keeping costs down can be a challenge, especially with many spending more time at home in the winter months.
Central heating is expensive to run, and investing in other solutions could save money in the long run.
Martin Lewis’ MoneySavingExpert team have a guide on how to ‘Heat the human not the home’, which lists methods to stay warm that don’t cost a lot to run.
One of the items mentioned is an electric gilet, which according to the guide costs from just 1p a day to run, and Amazon has just discounted the Dr. Prepare Heated Gilet from £54.99 to £39.99.

While there are other popular heating items like electric blankets and fan heaters, the handy thing about heated gilets is they can be used to snuggle up on the sofa, or outside on dog walks and festive days out.
Amazon’s gilet comes in a neutral black colour, which can be worn discreetly and features three different temperature levels to customise the warmth required, or it can be switched off and used as a regular item of clothing.
To power the gilet it requires a regular powerbank and uses USB to charge, with power lasting up to eight hours.
Although the size is adjustable with built-in zips, some reviews mentioned the size still being too big, and unfortunately the gilet only comes in one size so it can be difficuly to predict the fit before buying.
Shoppers are leaving their feedback on the Amazon deal, with some calling it ‘a no brainer to stay warm’.
L Henderson said: ”I absolutely love this heated gilet. It’s easy to fit as it has extra panels in the side to zip up or unzip for extra room. The gilet is thicker and heavier than my previous one and heats in all the right places. Neck, back and pockets at the front. I wear mine with or without the heating elements on. The fabric is of a really high standard and is long at the back so it keeps your back toasty warm. Will definitely be buying this model for my friends and family this winter. There are so negatives from me.”
Jeff commented: ”With how cheap this is, and how cheap battery packs have become, this is a no-brainer to stay warm all winter long! I love that it has a removable hood, which makes it perfect for layering. I got a 2 pack of 10,000mah batteries to use with this for $16, charge quickly and last long! I plan on getting this setup for several gifts this xmas!”
Bob D also added: ”I liked the design but the size was too small to fit me. I’m between and XL and 2XL. It did not fit with it in the full open position.”
